Dear Eagle Families,
We always have a lot to celebrate at Summerside but this week we have A LOT TO CELEBRATE! Mrs. Vicario, our Discover teacher, traveled with two fifth-grade students and a team from Amelia Elementary to Columbus to present at the Ohio School Boards Association Student Achievement Fair. This fair showcases exemplary programs that improve student achievement. Our students did an outstanding job sharing how they are extending their learning in our Discover class each week, building their creative thinking, collaboration, and leadership skills while engaging in engineering and design tasks. You can ask your child about what they did in Discover class this week to build these skills too!
Ms. Lowe, our assistant principal, and Mrs. Havran, an intervention specialist, represented Summerside's Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team at a multi-countywide showcase. Our PBIS team works to refine our overall proactive approach to teach students expected behaviors in all areas of our school and reinforce with Eagle Eyes when students are showing those expected behaviors. You can ask your student if their class has earned a Golden Eagle eye recently for classroom community reinforcement too.
See below for a surprise celebration of Mrs. Hardy, our music teacher, Channel 12 News' Teacher of the Week next week! Mr. Adam Clements and the Channel 12 News Team surprised Mrs. Hardy when she was teaching Mr. Wilson's third-grade class. Mr. Moore, our P.E. teacher nominated her for this honor!
Our PTO has been hard at work getting ready for our annual walk-a-thon, the Summerstride Eagle Quest! Students have raised more than $12,000 already, helping us cross the Summerside Mountains which led to a popcorn party for the whole school on Friday! All donations are due this coming Monday, 11/20 and the Summerstride fun will take place on Tuesday, 11/21. See below for ways to volunteer and more insight about the PTO's largest fundraiser of the school year!
We hope all have a very Happy Thanksgiving filled with family and friends and time to rest and relax! We are certainly thankful for you, your children, and our collective commitment to excellence with every learner, every day, every way.!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Ms. Lowe
Here are more outstanding snapshots from the OSBA conference to celebrate the work being done to extend and enrich in Discover!
Ms. Lowe and Ms. Havran represented Summerside at the Hamilton County Education Service Center on Thursday in recognition of Summerside's excellent work implementing Tier 1 & 2 PBIS supports!

Winter Weather and School Closings
As we move into wintertime, it is important for everyone to be prepared in the event we would have to close our schools due to weather issues. We encourage you to check out the article on our website entitled, "How Emergency Weather Decisions Are Made in West Clermont."
West Clermont 'Focus on Facilities' Town Hall Series
At our next series of Town Halls, we will be turning our focus to the school buildings in West Clermont. During these Town Hall events, we will examine the changing needs in facilities as well as the challenges of aging buildings, limited space, and the need for modern learning environments for our students. Through the Town Hall process, we will establish a Community Advisory Team that will assist the district in the formation of a Master Facilities Plan that is educationally-appropriate, financially responsible, and community-supported. Make sure your voice is heard! Join us on Tuesday, November 28th at Merwin Elementary (1040 Gaskins Road, Cincinnati, OH 45245). The Town Hall will begin at 6 PM.
