Dear Summerside Eagle Families,
We hope everyone stayed warm on our Friday snow day. Did anyone come home asking to wear their PJs backward or to flush an ice cube?! Well, it must have worked! Quite a few students said they did not want a snow day as they LOVE BEING AT SCHOOL! This is certainly heartwarming as we work hard to make Summerside a safe, special place to be together.
Speaking of being at school, thank you for getting your children to school every day as their consistent, on-time attendance in all grades, K - 5, helps us build a strong foundation for them together. We continue to build our daily attendance rate at Summerside and throughout the district and we know and appreciate the routines and effort it takes to make school a priority. If you are having challenges, we encourage you to attend this free webinar, School Avoidance - Mental Health Series - Clermont County on February 6, from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
Please note the PTO section below with all sorts of fun events to come, including a Cyclones game this Friday - Mrs. Courtney will be there too! We moved our February PTO meeting to 4:15 pm on 2/7 to accommodate the Kindergarten Information night that same evening. We hope you can join us for both and please be sure to share the information about our kindergarten night with neighbors who have incoming Eagles!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Ms. Lowe
Thank you so much to every staff member and parent who were able to join us at the WC Town Hall meeting on 1/18/24 at the WCMS. Your time, perspective, and insight will continue to guide our next step in our district as we focus on our facilities as we seek modern learning environments for ALL WC students!

You may or may not be aware that our school is identified as a Title I school, and I want to take this opportunity to explain what this designation means for you and your child.
Title I is a federal program designed to provide additional financial assistance to schools. This designation is intended to ensure that all children have access to a high-quality education and the support needed to meet challenging academic standards. Across each of our Title I buildings within West Clermont we use our Title I funds to provide services delivered by reading specialists.
To learn more about Title I programs, please see the attached document.
Grade-level newsletters will be updated every two weeks.

Hello Second Grade Parents/Guardians,
This is a very special announcement that we have been invited to do a performance of a few songs from our winter program, “The Polar Express!” The performance will be held in the West Clermont High School auditorium on the evening of Wednesday, February 28th. Students need to arrive at the high school at 6pm and they will take the stage at 6:30 pm. Students should plan to wear Summerside gear or black and yellow.
You will drop off your child in the lower media center across from the auditorium and you will pick them up from the lower media center when the performance is over. We would love to fill the house with as many of our second-grade performers as possible! This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience what it’s like to perform on the big stage - it’s also a great way to show off that Summerside Eagle pride! We expect all 2nd grade students will do their best to make it, as this show really was something to be proud of for many of our students and the whole district would love to celebrate it!
Mrs. Hardy
We are excited to offer an extended day field trip to Camp Cambellgard for 5th-grade students on May 13th. This extended day trip is in lieu of the typical overnight experience but will encompass many of the same camping and team building fun and adventures. Students will spend the entire day at camp, boarding buses at Summerside at 8 am and returning at 7 pm. Please look for detailed information and permission slip to be sent home in mid-February. We hope your 5th grader is excited to attend and take advantage of this opportunity!
Wolf Pack Corner - Class of 2031
WCMS is excited to begin weekly communications through our Wolf Pack Corner for current 5th grade students who will join our Wolf Pack during the 2024-2025 school year! Check out our short WELCOME VIDEO with Mrs. Dietsch, our 6th grade assistant principal! Look for short videos and other information in your elementary’s weekly newsletter for the remainder of this school year!
A reminder that students will go outside for recess as long as the surface conditions are deemed safe and the temperature (including wind chill) feels like 28 degrees or warmer. Please be certain your child is wearing a coat and is dressed appropriately to go outside to have some fun, get fresh air, and exercise! Be sure to write their name on their belongings in the event that it gets dropped or lost. Our lost and found is filling up so if your child is missing something, be sure to remind them to look there at lunchtime to try to find it! If your child is in need of a winter coat, please let us know as we can connect you with local resources to help keep them warm. You can call the front office, 513-947-7900, or reach out to Lisa Sheffey, Sheffey_l@my.westcler.org.

Change in 2023-24 District Calendar
At Monday evening's meeting, the Board of Education approved an adjustment to the district calendar for this spring. These changes were made in order to accommodate the date of the primary election in Ohio as well as the solar eclipse in April.
Specifically, those changes are:
March 19, 2024 - Students will not attend school
April 8, 2024 - Students will not attend school
May 7, 2024 - Students will attend school
You can download the updated version on the district website, on the WolfPack Hub, or by clicking here.
Why were these changes made? When the 2023-24 district calendar was adopted, Ohio had not yet announced the date of the 2024 primary election. We now know that election day is March 19th. May 7th was earmarked as a Professional Learning Day. In order to ensure student safety with voting taking place in many of our schools, we have moved the May 7th Professional Learning Day to March 19th. In addition, on April 8, 2024, Southwest Ohio will experience a partial solar eclipse. The timing of the eclipse unfortunately aligns with the dismissal of several elementary schools and our high school, posing risks for student drivers, bus drivers and elementary-aged students getting on and off buses. In the interest of student safety, we have changed this day to a Professional Learning Day for staff only.
Attention all parents & guardians who have students between the ages of 3-5 years old! The 2024-25 West Clermont Wolf Pup Preschool information is now available! Check out Wolf Pup Preschool page on our district website to get all your questions answered. Parents & guardians will complete an online form to enter the lottery between Jan 16-Jan 30 at this link: 24-25 PS Lottery
Winter Weather and School Closings
As we move into wintertime, it is important for everyone to be prepared in the event we would have to close our schools due to weather issues. We encourage you to check out the article on our website entitled, "How Emergency Weather Decisions Are Made in West Clermont."
