Dear Summerside Eagle Families,
We hope all enjoyed their spring break with time to slow down and get refreshed, preparing ourselves for the work ahead as we jumped right back into a full school press on Tuesday and throughout this week. Spring brings a renewed sense of energy and urgency as we work hard to finish strong together.
Our students and staff practiced tornado, fire, and lockdown/ALICE drills this week. The Union Township Fire Department was able to help monitor our responses during the fire drill and our Union Township Resource Officer, Officer Ventre, assisted during our lockdown drill. These practice drills allowed us to reflect on how to best stay safe in several situations. Students did an excellent job listening to and following adult directions during these practice drills.
State testing season is upon us for grades 3 - 5. See below for key dates to help make sure your child is well-rested, on time, and ready to show all they know.
Spring field trips for grades K, 1, 2, 3 & 5 are upon us (4th went earlier this year)! Please ensure your child's emergency medical forms are completed and up to date in your westclermont.powerschool.com/public account.
Be sure to check out the powerful results of our March Mathness work! Thank you for your support in helping your child engage in this meaningful math work!
See below for insight into our PTO book fair and the WC Foundation Fun Run.
We have six powerful, exciting weeks ahead to continue to do great things together!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Ms. Lowe

Grade-level newsletters will be updated every two weeks.
Our Discover team newsletter will be updated quarterly.
We wanted to take a moment to let you know how proud we are of our Summerside students. They definitely rose to the Zearn Challenge during the month of March. However, this could not have been as successful if we did not have the support of our families. Thank you for guiding your children to challenge themselves to reach their goals by completing their Zearn lessons. As a building, we completed over 8,000 lessons which correlates to a 52% growth in March.
We are so grateful for the incentives that our Summerside PTO provided that helped to motivate our students. The top ZEARNER in each class received their reward and the grade-level winners earned some new basketballs for the playground. We still have a few rewards to give, but we are so thankful for our PTO support.
By motivating and supporting our students, we have given our students an opportunity to significantly improve their mathematical skills and thinking. A reminder is that research shows that children who complete Zearn Math digital lessons each week significantly increase their math scores and help to build their confidence in working with numbers.
Our goal to finish out the year is to have our students continue to complete at least 3 lessons each week. This means we still need your support at home. Please continue to encourage and motivate your child to complete their Zearn lessons. Working together we can help our students to “Slam Dunk” their math skills.
This is a picture of our students moving into April and continuing to challenge themselves.
Summerside parents are invited to join Mrs. Courtney to learn more about our Title One Reading Specialists Services on Thursday, April 18, 11:15 - 12:00 p.m. at our Central Office. To RSVP your spot, simply email Mrs. Courtney and she will reserve a spot at the Summerside table! courtney_l@my.westcler.org
A reminder for those who drop off their children in the morning, please note all students are to remain in their car until an adult is at the front of the line to wave them out starting at 9:15 a.m.. Once in two lanes, cars are not to move until Ms. Coffey or another staff member is out front to ensure all students are safe and the car line is ready to move.
