Dear Eagle Families,
We continue to be a district on the RISE as we work to continually refine our approach in meeting your students' needs in every way. Recent professional development days allowed our teams to dig into your child's literacy and math data to help us plan instruction that is at their level to help them continue to work toward standard mastery at each grade level. One area of focus at Summerside this year is in writing. If you walked our halls during conferences, we hope you stopped to see the impressive work in each grade level as our kindergartners master writing words and sentences, our first and second graders work to master sentences and paragraphs and our students in 3 - 5 hone their skills at synthesizing information and thoughts into multi-paragraph pieces of work. Be sure to ask your Eagle what they have been writing about in school this week!
Thank you to all who volunteered their time at all of our recent PTO events, including the amazing Spooktacular event Friday evening! Such creative costumes and a lot of family fun! Speaking of costumes, students are not permitted to wear their costumes to school on Tuesday, 10/31, but we do encourage orange and black and festive shirts!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Ms. Lowe
Writing with purpose across the grade levels
Be sure to click into the grade-level newsletters below to see what your child is writing about throughout their day!
Grade-level newsletters will be updated every two weeks.
Our Discover team newsletter will be updated quarterly.
Our third graders will be taking the fall Ohio State Test for English Language Arts (ELA) the week of October 23. There will be two days of testing for each part of the test with our students working hard to slow down, read each part, and answer each question with attention to detail. Please ensure your child is on time on test days, ready to do their best work.
All third, fourth, and fifth graders will take the state tests in ELA, and Math, and Science in fifth grade, in the spring to continue to measure their progress and growth in both subjects through the years. Here are resources from the Ohio Department of Education that provide insight into the content of these tests and give the opportunity for additional practice at home. The results of the third-grade fall test will be shared with parents as soon as they arrive.

The Summerside Spooktacular was HUGE HALLOWEEN HIT! Thank you to all of our teachers and staff who were a part of our Trick or Treating fun and to all of the volunteers and donors who made this event such a success! The costumes were amazing and it was such a fun night!

2023 West Clermont Student Safety and Wellness Survey
October is School Safety Month in Ohio, and West Clermont will be administering a brief, anonymous, and optional school safety survey to 5th thru 12th grade students in our district the week of October 23rd. The goal of this survey is to capture student perspectives on school safety. The results of this survey will guide our ongoing work to create a safe, supportive, collaborative learning environment where every student has a sense of belonging. If you would like to review the student survey questions, please email info@westcler.org. If you would like to opt your student out of the survey, please complete this form. We hope you can encourage your child to participate in this survey. Their voices matter.
In addition, we are inviting you to participate in a parents and guardians version of the School Safety & Wellness Survey. Your feedback and insights are invaluable, and we hope you can take a few minutes to complete the survey. The link to the parent/guardian version of the survey is https://www.research.net/r/WCParents.
YES! I would like HealthSource of Ohio to send me the permission form for School-Based healthcare for my student.
