A humorous look at what teaching via Zoom (or any other video conferencing platform) can look like. (If you’re not up for 3 minutes of fun, feel free to skip this one.) After you watch the video, scroll down to the Padlet and add your own Zoom story.
Now that you've shared your stories (and maybe your frustrations), it's time to dig into some resources to learn more about Zoom and how to use it to effectively engage with your students during remote learning. In other words, how NOT to be the teacher in the video above.
The resources below are divided into two sections. The first list is focused on learning to navigate the Zoom platform and use the various features. The second list helps you learn to apply those features to create more engaging, productive virtual class sessions. Based on your own experience and comfort level with Zoom, take some time to explore these resources and then move on to practicing to improve your skills and confidence with Zoom.
(Please note that the whiteboard feature in Zoom is not available on student Chromebooks. Check out these modules for some possible whiteboard alternatives:
Practice! One great part about Zoom is that you can start a meeting all by yourself and practice using the tools. If you have another device (phone, tablet, etc.) you can join your meeting from that other device so you can see what it’s like to have another person in your meeting. Better yet, set up a meeting and invite a friend to join so you can practice together!
Take some time to explore all the tools and techniques that were shared in the resources above. The more you use them, the more confident you’ll be when it comes time to connect with your students.
