After completing this module teachers will be able to implement the ABC-123 strategy to help students choose and reflect on artifacts to self-assess and document their learning.
Content
Before Watching - “Above the Line”
Grab a sheet of paper. Jot down a few things you currently do to have students reflect on their work. Draw a line under your writing.
Watch
This video is from Seesaw’s “PD in Your PJs” series. The whole video is 30 minutes long, but you can learn the strategy in the first 10 minutes. After that, it goes into a Question and Answer session. Feel free to continue watching, if you find that helpful.
As you watch the video, circle or star things you wrote that are affirmed by the ABC-123 strategy shared.
Use the back of your paper to take notes or write down questions you might have about the strategy.
After Watching - “Below the Line”
Return to your original list of ways you have students reflect. Under the line, add any new ideas you learned in the video that you would like to try with students.
Interaction/Try-out/Sandbox
Consider how you will structure your folders in Seesaw to make it easy for students to review their work and choose pieces to reflect on.
Begin to plan lessons to teach each step of the ABC-123 strategy with your students. What will they need to be able to do in Seesaw to be successful?
Evidence
On your Individual Professional Learning Plan, share one of the following to document your learning…
Take a picture of your “Above the Line-Below the Line” writing and insert it into the document.
Share a link to a lesson you’re planning to teach the ABC-123 strategy to your students.
Write a brief reflection of how you can use what you learned in this module to engage your students in more reflection and self-assessment.
