We are learning about our Materials Everywhere project
Success Criteria:
Students can:
- explain the task and problem presented in the project.
- students can organise themselves in groups of either 2 or 3.
- students can select an Australian animal from the list provided, which they will then design and construct a model of a suitable animal shelter.
- students can draw a proposed design of their chosen animal's shelter.
- students can orally list the recyclable materials needed to constructed the proposed model design.
Focus Question: What is the task and problem you and your partner have been presented with and how will you solve it?
Copy of Copy of Science - Australian animals
Activity: You are going to choose a partner (potentially there may one group of 3) and select an Australian animal from the list of animals identified in the task presentation.
Materials everywhere project
Activity: You and your partner will each draw a proposed design for animal shelter. After 10 mins you must then discuss what materials you will need to bring and what design features you and your partner will choose from each of your designs. For example, "I like the way you have chosen to design the roof and was thinking that it would look good on the walls I have designed" or "I like how you have chosen to use poles like a shade sail, maybe we could use cardboard to build a strong roof and say it would be made out of tin."
During the design phase, make a note of the recyclable materials students wish to use to construct the model of the chosen animal shelter. Use prompts if necessary.
Reflection: What Australian animal have you chosen?
Why are designing and constructing a model of an animals shelter? What is our problem?
What materials do you and your partner need to bring in?
