At KGH we are proud to offer an array of working arrangements to provide the desired flexibility for all. Casual working agreements give people the opportunity to work on an ad-hoc basis to fit their own personal arrangements.
Unlike other contracts, a casual worker will only occasionally work shifts, this might be for specific functions or during busy periods such as Christmas.
The Company does not have to offer a casual worker shifts and the casual worker in turn does not have to accept a shift if they do not want to. However if a casual worker declines offers of work on three consecutive occasions, their details will be removed from the database.
Casual workers do not usually work full-time hours which means that they have an option to explore others avenues of interest that they may have. This might include further studies or pursuing a particular hobby.
As a casual worker you are not an employee of KGH but that does not mean you do not get any benefits, you will get:
Pension - If you are eligible and provided you meet all the qualifying criteria, you will be auto-enrolled into a pension scheme provided you are not already an active member of a KGH Pension Scheme.
Meal at work - Everyone who works a shift of 6 hours or more is entitled to a meal, free of charge in the hotel staff facilities.
Leisure club - If the hotel you work at has an onsite leisure facility you can enjoy complimentary membership.
Yes! Casual workers will accrue holiday for hours actually worked under the provisions of the Working Time Regulations. You will receive the equivalent of 5.6 weeks’ (28 days) annual holiday per year (pro rata depending on hours worked) including bank holidays.
Holiday entitlement will therefore accrue at the rate of 12.07% of the total hours actually worked. This is monitored on a weekly basis and accrued on a monthly basis and paid out once any accrued holiday is requested and taken.
If a casual worker has taken more holiday than they have accrued by the date that their engagement ends, the Company are entitled to deduct from the amount owed, any payment due to you.
Further information regarding casual work can be found in the your casual working agreement. If you have any questions regarding casual working, please contact your Line Manager.
