Apprenticeships in Utah

Truck Driver Apprenticeship

Associated General Contractors of Utah & MTech

Each of the apprenticeship programs (Skilled Labor, Rough & Civil Carpenter, Heavy Equipment Operator & Truck Driver) has a required number of on the job training hours and related training. All related training curriculum is from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). The AGC of Utah has partnered with Mountainland Technical College to provide the required educational instruction. Students will receive college credit for the classes. Most programs have classes one week at a time throughout the winter, although the Rough Carpenter program has night classes that go from fall through spring.

MTECH Commercial Truck Driving CDL

160 Hours

Professional commercial drivers are in high demand. Start on your path to a new high paying career and finish in as few as four weeks. Learn truck components and vehicle inspection, backing skills, advanced driving skills, safety and more. Four weeks of intensive training will prepare students for an exciting high-paying career in the trucking industry.

Topics include: basic and advanced driving skills, truck components and operation, cost-efficient operation, rules and regulations, paperwork, personal health and safety, and driver professionalism. Students will also log over 60 hours of on-the-road driving and observation. This training prepares drivers for a career with a wide variety of local and over-the-road carriers.

Training Programs at SLCC

SLCC Professional Truck Driving Class A Certificate

270 Clock Hours

This intensive program is designed to prepare students for an entry level truck driving position as a Class “A” CDL driver. The program has three courses with units of study that cover basic and advanced operating practices, defensive driving, inspections, life skills and essential activities such as trip planning, map reading, hours of service, cargo handling and an employment workshop.
