Work Environment

Childcare workers typically work in childcare centers, their own home, or private households. Part-time work and irregular hours are common.

What Preschool Teachers Do

Preschool teachers educate and care for children younger than age 5 who have not yet entered kindergarten.

Work Environment

Preschool teachers typically work in public and private schools or childcare centers. Many work the traditional 10-month school year, but some work year-round.

What Preschool and Childcare Center Directors Do

Preschool and childcare center directors supervise and lead their staffs, design program plans, oversee daily activities, and prepare budgets.

Work Environment

Preschool and childcare center directors work primarily in child daycare services. Most work full time, and some work more than 40 hours per week.

Training Programs at Snow 

Snow College Child Care Management AA 

The Early Childhood Education program offers specific training in the education and care of young children. The Program deepens the student's understanding of children, their families and developmentally appropriate practices while preparing students for careers in early childhood education.

The program offers a strong foundation in child development, curriculum writing, environmental planning, and guidance of young children that allows students to immediately take classroom and lab learning into the workplace to create quality developmentally appropriate learning environments.

Snow College also offers a Child Care Management Applied Associate degree. The Child Care Management degree offers specific training in the education and care of young children. The program consist of on-the-job learning opportunities for prospective preschool teachers and offers important business skills needed to start and operate home or commercial childcare services. 

Training Programs at UVU 

UVU Early Care and Education CC

30 Credits

This certificate is for students interested in increasing their skills in working with children in child care and preschool programs. Individuals are prepared to work as technicians in public education classrooms and as teacher aides in private centers or Head Start. 

UVU Early Childhood Education AS

60 Credits

Individuals who earn an Associate Degree In Early Childhood Education are prepared to teach preschool in private and corporate centers, Head Start, and public education tuition preschools, or work as center directors. The Associate Degree in Early Childhood can be planned to fill the majority of the requirements for entry into the Elementary Education Program. The UVU Early Childhood Education program is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. The UVU Teacher Education Preschool is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
