They use various classification systems to code and categorize patient information for insurance reimbursement purposes, for databases and registries, and to maintain patients’ medical and treatment histories. They work regularly with physicians, insurance companies, patients, and other health care professionals 


MTECH Medical Billing & Coding Certificate

SLCC Medical Billing & Coding Certificate

780 hours 

This PC based program prepares students to work in the outpatient medical coding areas of hospitals, larger medical clinics, and doctors’ offices. It provides basic clerical training in computer concepts, Internet, e-mail, keyboarding/skill building, word processing, ten-key, medical filing, medical terminology, insurance billing, medical accounting/patient scheduling software, outpatient coding, and spreadsheets. Emphasis is placed on customer service and life skills. 


SLCC Coding Core for Health Officials Certificate

280 hours 

The Coding Core for the Health Care Professional Certificate prepares people currently working in the health care industry to become a national certified medical coder. The program will cover ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS courses in preparation for the AAPC and/or AHIMA national certification exams. 

SLCC Medical Office Administration Certificate

795 hours 

The Medical Office Administration program will provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to competently perform the duties of an administrative medical assistant as defined by local and national standards. Medical Office Administration employees are trained primarily to work in doctors' offices and other ambulatory care clinics as an integral member of the allied health care delivery team helping with administrative tasks including business functions, medical records, patient intake, billing and insurance and other front office tasks.
