What Construction Managers Do

Construction managers plan, coordinate, budget, and supervise construction projects from start to finish. 

Work Environment

Construction managers may have a main office but spend most of their time in a field office onsite, where they monitor projects and make decisions about construction activities. Their schedules may vary.  

Training Programs at SLCC 

SLCC Construction Management  AAS, AS or CC

6 semesters

Students receive actual hands-on and theoretical training in erecting footings, foundations, concrete, framing carpentry, finish carpentry, cabinet making, construction management and more. Workplace skills such as human relations, written and oral communications, critical thinking and teamwork are also addressed. You will learn marketable skills for quicker job advancement within the construction industry. 

SLCC Construction Management & Sustainable Building AAS

64 credits

This program is dedicated to teaching light commercial and residential sustainable construction methods that address the green building & energy conservation demands of today. It is designed to provide students with a practical hands-on experience in various areas of building construction, interior finishes & cabinetmaking, along with project management and business management courses. 

Training Programs at Snow

Snow Construction Management AAS

This degree will prepare the student to find employment in a contracting business with the objective of becoming an owner-manager of such a business. 

Snow Construction Management CP 

*A Certificate of Proficiency will be awarded upon completion of an organized program that meets the students individual needs. Job level upon completion will be as a skilled employee of a contracting or a related business in the construction industry. 


Training Programs at UVU

UVU Construction Management AAS

63 Credit

Students may earn an Associate in Applied Science degree. The Clyde Institute of Construction Management Program has been designed to provide students a strong foundation in Construction Management that prepares them for jobs in construction site supervision and/or for advancement on to a BS degree in Construction Management. The program provides courses in building construction, construction management and construction science that apply to all segments of the construction industry with an emphasis on heavy civil and commercial construction. Students will learn about construction materials and methods through the use of readings, 3-D models, hands-on laboratory exercises, and site visits. Construction management courses in estimating and scheduling are also provided along with a strong background in mathematics, computer technology, business and other general education subjects. A supervisory course is also required so students can learn to manage workers at construction sites. 

UVU Construction Management CC

30 Credits

A Certificate of Completion for students seeking an applied education in construction. The courses can lead the students who desire to further their education towards the AAS and/or BS degree in Construction Management. 

UVU Facilities Management AAS

65 Credits

Two options are available: An Associate in Applied Science degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Technology Management.

UVU Building Inspection Technology AAS 

64 Credits

Students may earn a One-Year Certificate, an Associate in Applied Science Degree, or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Technology Management.
