Most surgical technologists work in hospitals & surgical centers. They spend much of their time on their feet. 

Training Programs at DATC

DATC Surgical Technology CP

1685 hours (13 months) 

Students in the Surgical Technology program apply their skills to become allied health professionals who work in the surgical suite delivering patient care. Surgical technologists ensure the operating room environment is safe, the equipment functions properly, and the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists are the surgical team’s experts in aseptic technique. After completion of required classroom hours, the student is required to complete a non-paid clinical externship in an operating room. Students completing this program are required to take the Tech in Surgery – TS-C (NCCT) Exam. 


Training Programs at MTECH

MTECH Surgical Technology CP

1314 hours 

Surgical technologists are members of the operating room teams, which include the surgeon(s), anesthesiologist and circulating nurse. They primarily fulfill the first scrub role and help to prepare the operating room by setting up sterile surgical instruments, equipment and supplies, such as drapes, gowns, gloves, suction tubing, and receiving solutions and medications from the circulator. Surgical technologists assemble the sterile equipment, check to ensure it is all working properly and make adjustments as necessary. 


MTECH Central Sterile Technician Certificate

800 hours 

Central Sterile Processing Technicians are essential team members of the operating room and healthcare team. They are responsible for the cleanliness, decontamination, inspecting and assembly of surgical instruments, packaging and sterilization of all surgical instruments, as well as high levels of verbal and written communication with the OR staff. Central sterile technicians have a strong understanding of decontamination and infection control to ensure their work protects patients and healthcare members from infections and diseases.

64 Credits

The Surgical Technology Program requires students to acquire entry-level knowledge in the field of surgical technology. Students will demonstrate excellent skills competencies, and develop professional interpersonal skills and attitudes required for successful employment and work successfully in the operating room. Students will prepare to become competent entry-level Surgical Technologists. 

Training Programs at USU Eastern

USU Surgical Technician Program AAS

5 Semesters

 The program prepares and trains individuals for a career in surgical technology.  Surgical Technicians  assist in operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses and other surgical personnel.   Upon the successful completion of coursework, students receive an Associate of Applied Science from Utah State University.
