SLCC Visual Art and Design: Animation Emphasis AAS 

65 Credits

Students who elect to pursue an AAS Degree in Animation will prepare themselves for entry level work in an animation related profession. They develop foundation drawing and design skills, apply animation principles in time based visualizations, and illustrate a working knowledge of quality visual storytelling. Students should choose electives and projects carefully to develop a working competency of both the arts and technologies involved in at least one specific area of the discipline. The Animation Emphasis is very technically rigorous and drawing intensive. It requires careful scheduling of classes to complete the program in the recommended time.  


SLCC Film Production Technician CP

19 Credits

Students master skills required to be competitive for technical positions in Utah’s local film industry. Such skills will include the interpretation of industry technical terms and functions, the operation of motion picture camera equipment, and understanding grip & electrical work on a soundstage, scene composition, lighting, and audio. Students will learn the pre-production, production, and post production processes.

Students may train for various film industry positions such as camera operator, camera assistant, audio mixer/recordist, 1st assistant director, grip, lighting designer assistant, sound designer, video/film editor, colorist. The Salt Lake Community College program involves students with full-time faculty as well as expert film industry professionals who teach courses within their areas of expertise. The local film industry is highly supportive of efforts to train people in these areas and will provide internship opportunities for SLCC students.

SLCC Film Production Technician AAS

65 Credits

The Film Production Technician program provides students with the specialized knowledge required to perform a wide variety of tasks encountered in the professional world of film and video production.

SLCC Apprenticeship: Stagehand JATC Technology AAS

62 Credits

The stagehand program trains apprentices in the art of constructing, setting up and moving of props and stage accessories. The work also includes all sound systems, lighting systems and overall facilities for any stage or movie production. This is a three-year program requiring 6,000 hours of on-the-job training and a minimum of 432 hours of related and supplemental instruction. The program follows a national curriculum which has been approved and registered with the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training and adopted by local sponsors. 


SLCC Motion Graphics and Visual Effects CP

20 Credits

Students who elect to pursue a Certificate of Proficiency in Motion Graphics & Visual Effects will prepare themselves to for entry level work in a related profession. They develop foundation drawing and design skills, apply animation principles in time based visualizations, and illustrate a working knowledge of quality visual storytelling. Students should choose electives and projects carefully to develop a working competency of both the arts and technologies involved in at least one specific area of the discipline. The Animation Emphasis is very technically rigorous and drawing intensive. It requires careful scheduling of classes to complete the program in the recommended times. The Certificates of Proficiency in Game Design or Motion Graphics may be used as stackable credentials for the Visual Art & Design Animation AS or AAS degrees.

UVU Digital Cinema CP 

15 Credits

Digital Media (DGM) fuses both fundamental theory and practical application in the production of electronically-generated content to be delivered via internet, radio and television, digital cinema, computer games, animation and cinematic visual effects, as well as for emerging technologies such as mobile computing (hand-held computing devices). The curriculum integrates these digital mediums to entertain, educate, and communicate ideas through meaningful human interaction. DGM provides motivated and dedicated students the opportunity to work closely with professionally active faculty members committed to the future of the digital disciplines. Students in Digital Media may earn either a Certificate of Proficiency in Digital Cinema, Associate in Applied Science Degree, or a Bachelor of Science Degree. Areas of emphasis include: Digital Communication Technology, Audio Production, Digital Motion Picture Production, Gaming and Animation, Internet Technologies. 


UVU Digital Cinema Production AAS

63 Credit

Digital cinema is the design, development, and delivery of digital cinema content through the process of pre-production, production, and post-production. The curriculum integrates digital cinema mediums to entertain, educate, and communicate ideas and information. This program provides motivated and dedicated students the opportunity to work with professionally active faculty members committed to the future of digital disciplines. The Associate of Applied Science in Digital Cinema will provide students with employable skills and a pathway to further education.
