정재경 《그랬던 것처럼》

도시 까치는 전봇대 변압기 사이에서 외부의 위협을 피하고, 봄이면 알을 낳아 새끼를 기르기 위해 겨울 내내 나뭇가지를 모아 둥지를 쌓는다. 그러나 고압 전류가 흐르는 산업 기계 사이에 자리한 새집은 인간의 생활 영역인 도시를 불태울 잠재적 위험을 안고 있기에 언제든 철거될 운명에 놓인다. 이 비좁은 틈새는 인간과 까치, 그리고 새끼를 노리는 또 다른 생명체가 맞닿아 나날이 투쟁하고, 불타고, 소멸하며 동시에 새로운 생명이 태어나는 순환이 이루어지는 자리다. 전시는 이 생존의 위태로움과 알 수 없는 운명이 얽힌 한 뼘 크기의 틈에, 아무 일 없던 듯 무심히 흘러간 시간과 어쩌면 존재했을지도 모를 장면을 담고 있다.

Jaekyung Jung, As If It Were

In the city, magpies build their nests between utility pole transformers to avoid external threats. Throughout winter, they gather twigs to prepare a place where they can lay eggs and raise their young in spring. Yet a nest set among high-voltage industrial machinery always carries the risk of igniting the city and is therefore destined to be removed at any time. In this narrow gap, humans, animals, and other creatures that prey on chicks come into contact—struggling, burning, disappearing—while new life simultaneously emerges. The exhibition captures the traces of time that have passed indifferently, and perhaps glimpses of scenes that might once have existed, within this precarious in-between space where crisis, uncertainty, and mystery intertwine.
