1. Select Takeoff on the Estimating navigation bar.
2. Set Breakdowns. From the dropdowns on the right, select the correct Bid Item, Drawing, Area, Phase, System and Takeoff Task. If changes need to be made from what is displayed on the dropdowns, click on the adjacent Breakdown header buttons to the left and edit them as needed.
3. Using Labor Factor. On the Takeoff sheet is a special Breakdown called Labor Factor, it is our recommended procedure for applying a factor to the labor in your estimate. You can select between various construction types, elevation heights and parallel run groupings of conduits. By selecting an installation at a higher elevation for example, the labor in your extension associated with that takeoff will be factored to reflect a greater difficulty of installation. By clicking on the Labor Factor button, you can view how your labor units will be factored for these various installation conditions.
4. Selecting the takeoff task will display the appropriate Specification(s) and Takeoff Pad.
5. In Areas, typical areas can be created.
a. Click the Area button.
b. Delete any areas that are not used.
c. Go to the Typical Area tab.
d. Name the typical and click OK.
e. Click the "+" signs to expand the description.
f. Enter counts in the applicable areas.
g. Close the Area Definition dialog box to except the changes and exit.
Best practice: In Automatics, turn on Cuts, Joints, Hanger, Ground Wire, and Junction Box before taking off any assemblies, unless specifically stated on the takeoff pad.

Hangers: Be sure to set the correct hangers for each assembly.
NOTE: “Attachment” type must be selected to return the proper anchors for the hangers.
6. Select Items/Assemblies from the database or takeoff pad. On the Takeoff Pad, single click the correct item(s).
7. Complete all required global variables. Also, change or add the label, sizes, lengths, %, etc. as needed.
Tip - Using your [Tab] keyboard key will advance through all fields without close finishing the takeoff.
8. When satisfied with the takeoff; select [Enter] or the keyboard or click “OK” to finish the takeoff.
9. Verify calculations in audit trail.
Note: The Attributes field is being created dynamically based on the user’s response to the variables. Also, the takeoff attributes indicate which were turned on when this takeoff was performed.
Click the “+” sign to view details. To collapse, click the “-“ sign.
To rename the takeoff after an assembly has been added:
1. Highlight the row in the audit trail.
2. Right click and select Rename Takeoff.
3. Edit the description and click OK.
To delete takeoffs:
1. Highlight the row(s) in the audit trail.
2. Right click and select delete. The line will be struck out; not deleted.
3. Use the [Hide deleted takeoffs] filter at the bottom of the Breakdowns to hide deleted takeoffs.
A print image in the Description column indicates there were items added in Details.
Double click the line and go to the Details tab to view, add, edit or delete lines. Click OK when done. The Details tab is where all the editing takes place.
