As you are likely aware, Superintendent Missy Bavaro is retiring over the summer, and she will be sorely missed by our community!
That said, we recognize that we have a job to do in filling the position over the next few months. Please click on the link HERE for more information on how you can help and be informed regarding the search for a new Superintendent. Enclosed in the link is a flyer containing some information about joining focus groups and completing a survey (located HERE for your convenience) about what our community needs in our future superintendent. The survey closes on June 13, so please take some time soon to contribute some feedback!
In Mr. Ziff's Health class, students had the chance to do QPR training with Justine Ginsberg from FVHD and Alicia Van Neill from EGYS. In the two-day lesson, students learned how to "question, persuade, and refer" those that may be in need of mental health support.

On Friday, May 23, as a concluding activity for Mrs. Stewart's unit on resilience, Holocaust survivor Rabbi Philip Lazowski spoke with our eighth graders about his experience as a child during the Holocaust and how faith, hope, resilience and kindness helped him to survive. He left our students with the task of studying hard, knowing the truth about history, being kind to others and drawing upon family and community as motivators to be their best selves.
The 6th Grade General Music class is making great progress with learning the guitar! They have learned pitches on three strings, four different chords, and the G Major scale. Please enjoy their performance of "Twinkle, Twinkle" from today's class. You will hear students performing the melody using the first three strings of the guitar as well as hearing students play a simple version of a C Major chord, a simple version of a G Major chord, a simple version of a G7 chord and a D7 chord. On Sunday May 18, Mackenzie Delpha will be teaching an Ekphrastic Workshop at the Agonist Gallery in East Windsor, CT. It’s open to all ages, and it will take place from 2-3:30PM.
From Mackenzie:
"Students will be taught the elements of Ekphrastic poetry/prose and how to use them. Then they will be given time to explore the museum and write their piece. After that, they will participate in an open mic. My hope for this class is for writers to feel confident in their interpretations of art and also to improve their craft."
The Water Cycle is quite the cycle….. and way more than the simple evaporation, condensation, and precipitation they learned back in elementary school. The water cycle has so many different paths that a water droplet can take than the traditional 3 steps they already knew. 7th grade students each “rolled” their way around the water cycle to create their own unique water droplet journey that they are now in the process of personifying and turning it into a story about the journey they took. It is a creative way for them to be assessed on their understanding of the water cycle and all the processes and changes a water droplet can go through.

Andrew Houghton and Dylan Hamilton from EGMS had a busy few days in early May! As members of the 4-H G-4s robotics team, these kids put their whole hearts into representing their hometown with pride. The Vex World’s Championship, held in Dallas, TX, gathered teams from 32 nations to compete for three days. Their new experiences were never ending, including in their first match when their alliance was from China and they communicated using Google translate! They ended the qualifiers with a 6-4 record placing 24th out of 81 teams in their division. 32 teams out of the 81 made it to elimination brackets where the G-4s lost to the first place seed. For skills, they ended 174th out of 483, and their Strength of Schedule was second for their division.
The G-4s walked away with so much to be proud of. Nice work, Dylan and Andrew!
In Mrs. Petersen's class, students have been researching different civilizations and now are in the creating stage where they are making g models, artifacts and songs to support their presentations.
