The sunrise over our building in the morning before school starts is absolutely beautiful. Credit to Mr. Friedberg for the photo!
Each week, students are celebrated for the acts of great EGMS student character through responsibility, empathy, manners, initiative, and scholarship. This was our first class of REMIS (rhymes with "Emmys") this year on September 8!
Dr. Faulkner's group had a lot of excitement in the greenhouse this week! A few butterflies hatched out of their chrysali, then the students tagged the butterflies and released them.
Gianna Caron, Grade 8, addressed our faculty and staff for the entire district on Tuesday, August 30. We welcomed her words of inspiration and humor in getting excited for the school year!
Mr. Langan (left) and the teachers from Team 7 address our students in the first minutes of the school year in the MS Library. There were lots of happy faces to start the school year!
This is our school's motto for keeping a positive and supportive climate. On Thursday, students discussed and analyzed what this looks like in our shared spaces in school like the hallways, the commons, and the auditorium. The students did a wonderful job establishing some school wide norms for all of the EGMS Community to "be kind, be safe, and be responsible"!
Our school district's mission and vision for what our students should be able to do upon their graduation after thirteen years of schooling is composed of the five following major components: Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, and Empowered Citizenship. Students spent some time in each of their classes on Friday, September 2 to discuss what the "5 C's" look like in each of their classes.
For the first time in a few years, students have locks and lockers! We have had a lot of practice over the past three days going once to the right, twice to the left, and once to the right again. It's been an adventure this week, but we think we're close to 100% of students having opened their lockers on their own at least once!
Mrs. Klucznik's 7th grade ELA class had a fun activity where they wrote a little bit about themselves on each side of a hexagon, with the fun payoff off of seeing how each class had some connections and similarities between the students! This was a fun one to see in action.
Ms. Chaloux and Ms. Gilbert spent some time in labs for all of our Band and Chorus students to go over the schedule rotations, routines, and procedures. Their ability to adapt and organize to work with students in creating great sounds throughout the year is impressive, to say the least!
Cheyenne Smith and Anay Mahindru recite the Pledge of Allegiance each morning then follow up with the announcements for EGMS
Mr. Dorr's sixth graders were working with "boogie boards" in science class on Friday! They're a great tool for doing checks for understanding in classes. In this opener activity that taught students how to use them, Mr. Dorr asked the students to identify at least one positive thing that happened at EGMS in the first week... and the students had a lot to share!
The EGMS Library is home to a lot more than just books (although we have a bunch of those as well). Mr. Friedberg and his wonderful tools of technology are engaging and fun for students to use and learn during lab time!
