Many thanks to the EGMS Student Government and their advisors, Mr. Tomala and Mrs. Petersen for putting together next week's spirit week to celebrate "Read Across America"!
Next week, from Monday through Thursday, we will be holding a friendly reading competition between grades 6, 7, and 8 to track minutes read. Teachers and staff are welcome to contribute to the "minutes read count" as well for their grade!
Each morning in Period 1, please distribute one "reading" ticket to each student.
Students will track their minutes read each day and must get an adult signature to verify their time.
If a student reads in class or lab, a teacher may sign their ticket.
Students will turn in their completed ticket and receive a new one for the next day.
Each grade has a different color ticket:
Grade 6 – Orange
Grade 7 – Green
Grade 8 – White
Beginning Monday, there will be a ticket collection box in the MS library where students will drop off their tickets.
The grade with the most minutes read by Thursday at 2:10 PM will earn a special treat during Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) time in advisory on Friday, March 7.
Check out the details for spirit week below!
Mr. Phelan had the fun opportunity to read to some fifth graders and answer a few insider questions for the rising sixth graders for SY'25-26! Thanks to Mr. Esposito and his class for being so engaged and welcoming!
Students from grade 7's MET robotics course make electronic devices using snap circuit kits.
In Mrs. Ciccarelli's science class, students have been going through all the steps to become microscope experts! This will help out when they learn all about the cell organelles up next.
Mr.s Dabrowski's 7th graders were having "Integer Wars" to practice adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers.
Dylan Hamilton and Andrew Houghton had some great accomplishments outside of school! Their G4s robotics team achieved first place in Skills in the Connecticut VEX V5 robotics Middle School State championships! They also won an Innovate award. Because they placed first in Skills, their team earned a ticket to compete at the World's competition in Dallas in April.
In Mr. Berardy's class grade six coding class, students share the apps they made using code.org's App Maker.
Please review the fliers below regarding some summer opportunities for EG Families at TMSC.
Students are loving Art Club! Mrs. Stewart has a creative group of students showing some artistic expression every Tuesday after school.

On behalf of the EGMS community, please review the following highlights regarding attendance, morning traffic, and winter illnesses
- We've seen a lot of improvement in the student community for getting to school on time! Keep up the good work! As a friendly reminder, classes begin at 7:40, so students should aim to be walking in the door by 7:35AM so that they have time to put away and gather the appropriate materials before being ready in their classroom for the 7:40 bell.
- If you drop your student off in the morning, please pull all the way up to the car in front of you... even if that car is around the bend of the traffic circle and landing in front of the HS entrance! This allows for the maximum amount of cars to fit at the drop off space and to maximize the number of students that can get out. This also speeds up that long line of families behind you waiting for their turn to do the same thing you're doing. Lastly, please encourage your student to be "pitstop ready" upon arrival. Thanks in advance for your help and cooperation.
- If your student is feeling ill, please do keep them home for rest, recuperation, and reducing the spread of illness to others in the community. If your student requires medical attention, please request a note to excuse their absences.

The EGMS Faculty and Staff had a fun week from 2/10-2/14! We conspired and planned to come in with a secret undercover spirit theme just to keep the EGMS students on their toes (and maybe slightly entertained). We had the following themes for this past week:
Monday - Favorite Band T-Shirt Day
Tuesday - Socks and Sandals Day
Wednesday - Animal Print Day
Thursday -Dress Like a Student Day
Friday - Wear Red or Pink for Valentine's Day
In Mr. Dorr's clasroom, students have been learning about the periodic table of elements and having fun getting creative and decorative! Check out some of the work that Mr. Dorr's students have hanging from the ceiling!
On Friday, February 14, we were visited by East Granby Youth Services (EGYS) to celebrate kindness and self affirmation on Valentine's Day! Each student was offered a "pocket hug" trinket with a positive message, and all were also invited to meet with the super friendly and approachable staff from EGYS at the EGYS Reset Booth. This gave students an opportunity to celebrate each other as we headed into the long Presidents' Day Weekend.
EGMS celebrates Black History Month this February! Each morning after the Pledge of Allegiance, our school announcers read a small biographical snapshot about a person of color who has made an impact on our society. While they are reading, teachers in all of the Period One classes put slides up on their Viewboards so students may have a visual of the historical figure that's being celebrated. Please check out some of the highlights below!
Please join us online for a discussion between parents and EGMS Faculty on Monday evening from 5:45-6:45PM prior to the BOE Meeting scheduled for 7PM. For those who would like to attend, simply click on the link HERE on Monday 2/10 at 5:45PM, and we will let you into the Google Meet.
