The National Honor Society is currently running a Backpack for the Homeless Campaign. We are accepting new personal hygiene products like deodorant, tooth brushes, toothpaste, disposable razors, chapsticks, hand moisturizer, shampoo, conditioner or any other items for personal use. The most requested item is socks as most homeless people often suffer from frostbite in the winter months due to inadequate socks. Please bring in items until December 21th (holiday break) and drop them off in Mrs. Ash’s room or collection boxes that are in the front lobby. Thank you.
In Ms. Chaloux's General Music class, students have been learning how to play the guitar by reading and performing pitches, rhythms and chords. They've worked on strings 1, 2, 3 and 6 so far. Please enjoy this performance of "Playing in Three". Students performed a melody using the first two strings of the guitar with simple versions of the C and G7 chord as accompaniment. Dr. Faulkner's Greenhouse Club and 8th grade classes make this space truly alive with the dedication and work they put into it! We even have an orange tree growing the real thing in that space.
One of my favorite student work displays from year to year comes from this assignment, where students in Mrs. Stewart's ELA class create collages about themselves in the shape of their one silhouette! We learn so much about the students through their self reflection, and it's a fun and creative way for students to express themselves!
Maybe this the ultimate dream for the typical basketball playing middle schooler?! 8th graders were playing "trashketball" in Mrs. Provencher's math class today, where they were actually allowed to shoot papers into a basket from far away! They had to earn the chance to shoot, of course, by demonstrating their math skills on some complex problems on the difference between linear and nonlinear functions. They were engaged, having a blast, and showing off their stuff... with the math more so than with the papers in the basket.
Mr. Dorr's class had a visitor this week! His students welcomed a guinea pig named "Potato" to class. Potato was well behaved and relaxed despite the fact that the entire sixth grade wanted to hang out with him.
Mr. Hurlburt's now EG famous waffles on a stick were a hit on the last day of school before the winter break! It was a fun sweet treat to have while working on an optical illusion task at the same time. it was a fun way to finish strong before break!
A couple of new 3-D printers just arrived in the EGMS Library! Some of our students were assiting Mr. Friedberg in putting it together.
We had lots of school spirit (and laughs!) amongst the students, faculty, and staff on Friday, December 15! It was a fun way to celebrate the last Friday in school in 2023!
The Middle School held their first ever Winter Craft Fair. Many students participated in selling and buying crafts made by our Career Readiness Class. Students were very enthusiastic about selling, and did an excellent job on making these crafts!!! :)
This week was the first meeting of Friendship Club. Students made sock snowmen and tested their architectural skills by building gingerbread houses in teams. The students also made friendship snowmen and identified the traits of a good friend. Students also played a fun game with lots of laughter!
Dr. Faulkner's Greenhouse Club meets after school once a week. They get to make cool crafts to decorate the plants and sometimes get the opportunity to take some them home! Check out the pinwheel in motion!
EGMS students wore pajamas to school to stand together in support of children fighting cancer. Click HERE to make a donation! to the cause if you haven't done so already!
Mrs. Riloff's class had a game show today: "Spanish's Got Talent!" We saw dancing, rapping, guitar playing, weather forecasting, and book reading done in Spanish so that students could demonstrate their learning about weather, climate, and seasons.
Mr. Dorr's students were exploring lampreys up close today! I learned today that they are sometimes called 'the vampires of the Great Lakes" due to their parasitic acts on other animals. The sixth grade scientists had lots of fun today!
In Mr. Hurlburt's science class, students constructed prosthetic hands out of cardboard and string! The students' hands had to pass some functional tests to see if they had been properly engineered. Look at this student using a cardboard hand to pour a glass of water!
In Mr. Ziff's iLead class, students were applying strategies with group dynamics in a game of human foosball! Collaboration, communicating, and critcal thinking are all a part of a student's development in iLead!
