This was a great year at EGMS! We're proud of our students and the hard work they put in to their learning this school year. Mixing some fun annual traditions (the 'teacher wave' at dismissal) with a new one (The 8th grade post-awards reception, with many thanks to the 8th grade parents and EGMS PTO for putting it together), we had a lot of fun in celebrating the successful completion of 22-23! Enjoy the summer, EGMS! See you next year!
Special thanks to Ms. Rosenstein for putting together this slideshow accompanied with great music to celebrate the 8th graders of 22-23! Click HERE to see the video.
Congratulations to our 7th grade Social Studies Olivia Petersen on her well earned achievement of being our district's 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year! It was a fun surprise to share with the EGMS community, and Mrs. Petersen's family was there to tell her. Our whole school was there and filled with joy and excitement to celebrate her!
We had a fun day at Boulder Ridge in Barkhampstead, CT on June 14. Zip Lines, kayaks, and swimming were just a part of it!
The 8th graders had an amazing evening of food, laughs, and music at the East Granby Community Center on Thursday, June 8. Thank you to all of the parents and Grade 8 teachers that put the event together!
We had a surprise assembly for Mr. Langan and Mr. Ibanez on June 8, who have started their retirement from teaching! Lots of laughs, emotions, memories, and music were shared that day to celebrate them both. We even combined the MS and HS bands to perform "Remember Me" from Disney's "Coco". Click on the picture of the band to see and hear the performance.
Izzy Bernstein, Lizzie Adams, and Anna Sterrett greeted us everyday with the Pledge of Allegiance and the morning announcements.

Grade 7 -- Sam Forero
Grade 8 -- John Walsh
The band and chorus students at EGMS put on an exceptional show on May 31 before turning the corner into our final month of June! We even had an early 90's-like jam session starring Sam Forero (Guitar) and Wesley Namnoun (Drums) performing "Enter Sandman", accompanied by the 7th and 8th grade band. It was awesome!
Mr. Dorr's students were dissecting lampreys in class! It's our annual rite of passage for our future scientists, who were happy to put those masks back on for a change!
On the last day of SBAC testing, we celebrated our students' efforts by having an afterschool activities day. A huge thanks to our volunteers, and those that offered to help out with the event. We had just shy of 100 students who were fired up and excited with the various games, activities, movies, and sports. Their behavior was perfect, and the weather was great.
Most of these following students are learning to play f=guitar for the first time at EGMS in Ms. Chaloux's General Music class... this is one of my favorites to visit. Check out their version of "Down by the Station"! Just click on their picture, and the video will play for you. Nicely done by:

Grade 7 ELA students acted out scenes that other students wrote from a book club novel.
Quite literally, the greenhouse was ALIVE with growth and activity, and the Greenhouse Club did great work in selling plants to families that wanted to celebrate the mothers in the community. I'm selfishly hoping to get some pineapple when it's ready!
Mr. Tomala's class Sixth Grade Social Studies created board games after their study of European History. It was fun to see them work together and challenge each other to demonstrate the content and skills they've learned.
Mrs. Klucznik shared some photos of her grade 7 "Game Day" activity in ELA class. Students play the original games created by their classmates as book response projects from book club novels. This was a great combination of creative thinking, collaboration, and fun!
Dr. Faulkner's 8th grade scientists were hard at work earlier in the quarter learning how to cast, working with the salmon they were going to release, and taking a closer look at a praying mantis!
