There's still time to donate and there are still a few items that we need to pull this week off so please consider signing up here. If you've already signed up to donate an item, please drop items off at 20 Washington Ridge Road by 4pm on Sunday, May 4th. There is a bin & cooler (with ice packs) on the front porch.
Thank you for your support of this special and fun week!

In the next few weeks, students at EGMS will have some periods of standardized testing for SBAC and NGSS.
This coming week, SBAC Math Testing for all three grades will take place on Tuesday through Friday (5/6-5/9).
To ensure that all EGMS students are both best prepared to be successful and in compliance with testing conditions, please remind them of the following information:
- School starts at 7:40... please arrive on time.
- Please bring in the Chromebooks fully charged.
- If possible, please bring chromebook-compatible wired headphones.
- Please bring a water bottle and a snack (although we will have extra snacks just in case!).
- Students are expected to be respectful during the test block so all students have a quiet work environment. (Ensure they have a book to read silently if they're done while others are testing).
- Electronic devices are prohibited from access to unauthorized electronic devices. Please reiterate that all cell phones and smart devices (yes, even including smart watches and "fitbits" connected to phones via bluetooth) must be off and away in lockers (as expected always per our school policies and practices).
- Lastly, and most importantly, please ensure that our students get a good night's sleep!
Between plant sales, warm weather, and baby turtle sightings, EGMS students had a lot of fun getting their hands dirty this week! EGMS community members may stop by the EGMS Greenhouse for a bargain sale on Monday, 5/6, from 1:30-2:50PM. Still available: tomatoes, aloe, hangin baskets, dahlias, Queen's Tears, and others!
In Mrs. Petersen's class 7th Grade Social Studies class, students are learning about eh geography of the Americas and Mesoamerican civilizations. This week, students are using radial symmetry to create Aztec Sun Stones!
The pups were back again on the last tuesday of the month. As always, they're welcome to our community with open arms. It was especially appropriate that they came on our first day of SBAC testing!
Mr. Ziff's 4th quarter class had a pickleball tournament! Jack and Liam were the champions for this quarter.
Students in Mr. Simeone's math class are learning about the shape of data as they construct box and whisker plots with a five number summary - maximum, minimum, quartile 1, 2, and 3 so they can determine the appropriate measure of the center of data.
Don't be caught this year without your yearbook. Click on the following site and use code 1220525 to purchase this year's 2024-25 East Granby Middle School yearbook. Feel free to reach out to Mrs. Provencher with any questions.
The Life Skills class planned a brunch this week, including a shopping trip to Geissler's. They prepared all of the food from recipes they found and shopped for.
EGMS thanks you, Ms. Muzzy! On April 23, we celebrated the best administrative assistant on the planet with flowers, coffee, standing ovations, cookies, cards signed by students and faculty... EGMS is that much more awesome thanks to her, and we hope she feels appreciated!
This project is an annual hit, and a ton of work, passion, and volunteer help goes into making this a huge success and a memorable experience for our 8th graders! Between raising the fish (salmon and trout) to maturity and bringing them to Granbrook Park for release, the students have invested a lot of time to get to this fun day! Special thanks to Dr. Faulkner for making this trip happen every year... soooooo much planning and coordination goes into this! We even had a few special visitors among us... check out these wonderful pictures!
Spring is definitely in the air, and one of the best signs of this is seeing the sunrise on the way into school! Photo credit goes to Dr. Faulkner for these great snapshots!
Whether it's a 7th or 8th grader enjoying the space during class or lab, or whether it's one of our Greenhouse Club members having fun with plants and with Dr. Faulkner, the EGMS Greenhouse is a hit!
On Tuesday, April 22nd, students at EGMS were doing the good work to help save our planet by researching, drawing, creating, and/or presenting about how humans can improve the quality of our environment. There's a great link HERE to see some of our 7th grade students' video production about Earth Day, and there are some great drawings below from other students at EGMS!
Many thanks to Brooke Hines and Alan Joby for brightening our day every morning with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Daily Morning Announcements!
What a way to end the first week in April?!?! We welcomed The Lost Tribe to EGMS for a whole school assembly on April 4, and we sincerely had one of the best cultural and musical experiences in my 25 years of education. The Lost Tribe gave our students a positive vibe, an opportunity to clap and dance, and a cultural education about the infusion and integration of the history and music of West Africa into our beloved hip-hop music and culture in the United States. The performers, led by Jocelyn Pleasant, were fun, talented, and engaging, and our students and professionals really got into it! Special thanks to the EGMS PTO for supporting this and helping us make this assembly happen! It was truly a big hit, and the positive energy flowed following the assembly all day long!
For a more detailed explanation about The Lost Tribe's programs and biography's of its talented band members, please go to the following link:

Walking down the 8th grade hallway, you’ll be inspired by strong, resilient figures from great novels. To finish up the Resilience Unit, Mrs. Stewart’s students ran their own book club discussions and created life-size representations of a resilient figure from their novel.
From Ms. Chaloux:
Hello Gr. 6 Third Quarter General Music Families!
Please enjoy the class performance of "Royal Blues"! This piece uses all six strings of the guitar. Students are playing in three parts - the melody, a bass line and chords.
Thank you!
