For two months, the Magazine Club met and spent time creating literary works for two school magazines. The students have worked tirelessly writing, drawing, and working on the magazine layouts. Along with writing, students spent time laughing, listening to music, and enjoying each others company. The magazine club is excited to share their work with the school. Students and teachers can look forward to being able to get a copy of the magazines at the end of January.
From Mr. Friedberg:
"We moved on from using the internal sensors built into the boards, to potentiometers and now we are exploring joystick modules. It was pretty sweet to see Khallee so excited and proud of her bot, and how she describes Brenn helping her."

Our 8th graders met in the auditorium to hear from EGHS students and staff to discuss the academic and afterschool programs that await them for the four years beyond their departure from East Granby Middle School! We were impressed with the presentation done by the EGHS students from Grades 9-12.
On the day before the Thanksgiving break, EGMS students and faculty pre-celebrated the holiday weekend by wearing hats. We had a lot of fun that day!
Please check out the announcement from our Top Turkey Advisors, Sarah Faulkner and Olivia Petersen:
Attention East Granby Students: We have the results of the Top Turkey Food Drive.
Holy Cow, East Granby -- you were AWESOME for the food and money collection for the East Granby Food Pantry this year! The food bank is SO grateful -- they told us that they were low on some food items and that our donation was really needed. Thank you everyone who participated. From a single can to the large cash donations, every contribution mattered. Together we collected an amazing amount. This might be a record donation to the food bank: 1509 items, and $574.67.
And here are the results for winning the pizza lunch. As has happened so many times before, we had a last minute race for the top spot:
3rd place: Mrs. Provencher with 418 points
2nd place: Mrs. Dabrowski 469 points
Winner of a Pizza Lunch: Mrs. Kluznik with a total of 541 points!
Thank you everyone. You helped many families be able to enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving meal this year.
Mr. LeBlanc & Ms. Jones 6th and 8th Grade PE students collaborated with one another to create their own PE games to teach their peers!
In Mrs. Petersen's class, students did a Veterans Day Scavenger Hunt to learn about the origins of Veteran's Day and how and why we celebrate.
EGMS students were ecstatic to share in celebrating our local community's veterans in school on November 10 in honor of Veterans Day. We were grateful to have perfect weather during the Veterans Day Parade from school to school! Students showed patriotic spirit by waving American flags and wearing red, white, and blue while watching our veterans and town dignitaries drive by.
Congratulations to Hansika Lenkala (Gr 8) for winning the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET) "Dream Big!" Essay award. The purpose of this contest was for students to explain their future goals after going to college. Hansika wrote about creating a global musical organization to support getting youth the opportunity to play instruments and sing in choirs.
Congratulations to Evan Hanks, Nate Russell, Cheyenne Smith, Jasper Byrne, and Matthew Richardson for there Rube Goldberg Models of Excellence in Mr. Langan's class! Just click on the pics below to see the projects in motion!
On the last Friday of October, EGMS students kicked off our annual Top Turkey Drive with a Spooky Spirit Day! Students and teachers from all grades had a blast!
The 8th graders have been presenting their projects about the impact of plate tectonics on specific locations around the world. One student was presenting about Popcatepetl, a volcano in Mexico, but was struggling to pronounce its name. Several students said, we can pronounce it! We've been singing a song about it in chorus! Dr. Faulkner said she'd love to hear it, and later that day was surprised when Ms. Gilbert brought her chorus group into the science room during lab, and they sang "Popcatepetl" in a round. Interdisciplinary learning at its best!
