The 8th grade students had an amazing day at Boulder Ridge! They had ziplining, rock climbing, basketball, kayaking, volleyball, bounce house obstacle course, and even an impromptu hot dog eating contest. Many thanks to the EG Board of Education and EGMS PTO for their support and contributions to make this day work!
We are very excited to share the 2021 E.G.M.S. Spring Concert with you! Please click HERE to access the recordings and a copy of the program. We are very proud of the work the students did this year and we hope you enjoy their performances!
In Ms. Rosenstein's 8th Grade Social Studies Class, students had an opportunity to record what their pandemic experiences were like. They photographed and wrote about what they did, what they learned, and what their "quarantine survival kits" looked like. Here are a few snapshots of their work!
We had two award winning EGMS Students for this year's CT Invention Convention!
Jordan Collie, 8th grade, who won the prestigious CASE award for his Solar Compost Booster invention. His invention speeds up the composting process by applying thermal energy to the compost soil. This is great for the microbes in the compost soil, and helps to develop better compost soil. The device uses a large pipe with heaters mounted to it, that someone would insert into the compost bin, and uses solar energy to generate energy to power the device.
Varshny Sriganesh, 7th Grade, who won the Raytheon Technologies Jules Verne award. She invented her Allergine Mobile app prototype. Her app allowed a person to scan the barcode on food and it would then identify the possible allergens and reactions a person could have to that food. She received assistance in this coding effort from Josiah Friedberg.
Check out this product by one of our musically talented 6th graders (Jasper Byrne), which shows a cool hybrid of music and technology! It's another example of new skill development demonstrated by our students in this very unique school year.

To get a little more spirit going before SBAC testing this week, we had "Fancy Friday"! The students dressed up and looked sharp going into the weekend!
Thanks to some grant writing initiative from Dr. Faulkner and some assembly work from the students, we now have more learning spaces available outside the greenhouse! It looks great out there!
In Paper Crafts Club, students spent time creating zentangles and paper designs. Students had some wonderful creative designs. This year students are really letting their artistic side come out!
Check out some of our EGMS students during rehearsal for this weekend's showing of Matilda, the Musical on stage in the EGMS/EGHS auditorium!
Students in Mrs. Stewart's class took the opportunity to work outdoors while writing their memoirs!
We just discovered a robin's nest in the first bush adjacent to our front door!
In Mr. Dorr's class today, students were observing rocks commonly found in Connecticut. Through their data collection and observed characteristics, they were working hard at classifying the types of rock as sedimentary, igneous, or metamorphic! The students even found a creative way to bring in some of our remote learners from home!
Congratulations to Chennacy Copeland (Gr 6), Hansika Lenkala (Gr 7), and Salina Ho (Gr 8)!
The students spent their first session of paper crafts club creating Spring scenes from paper cut outs and stamps.
To close out the week, some of our teachers won prizes from the PTO! Here are some of the prize winners along with their students!
On behalf of the administrative team, the EG PTO, and all of the parents in town (including myself), thank you EGPS teachers for your dedication, heart, and effort in making this academic year a successful one! The teachers at EGMS and EGHS were treated to a few treats over the course of the week, including a beautiful breakfast spread, snacks, and Frankie's Food Truck!!! Teachers, please know that you are truly appreciated.
Check out some of the EGMS students working with their green thumbs inside AND outside the greenhouse!

With the weather outside getting nicer by the day, EGMS students were able to take advantage of having a socially distanced lunch outside.
On April 28, some of our students made their way over tot Granbrook park to release the salmon they've been raising for the past several months. It was a great day of fun and science outside, and we even had some remote students join us for the day!
Please review the information below from EG Youth Action Council Advisor, Bonnie Jones:
Earth Day is right around the corner and we would like to celebrate by doing trash clean up on our roads to keep East Granby looking beautiful. We will be holding an organized clean up Sunday, April 18th from 12:30-2pm. The East Granby Middle School YAC will be doing clean up on Spoonville road only, and all participating middle school students must be accompanied by an adult..
Please sign up by April 13th using the signup genius link below so we can know how many people want to participate- family and friends can sign up too!! We will meet at the East Granby Community Center to distribute bags and vests before heading out to Spoonville. If you can not make our event we encourage you to pick a time during the week to walk your own mile strip of street in town and pick up trash. When we all work together we can accomplish important things!”

In order to receive report cards, you must "opt in" through PowerSchool. The process is quick and easy, and it facilitates delivery of the report cards directly to your email address. The easiest way to do this is at a computer (i.e. not your phone).

Students were given a survey during advisory last week, and they were asked to answer this question. We printed the answers out and siplayed them on the wall to the Commons and Gym. Zoom in on the panoramic picture below to find out what they had to say!
