Hello friends of ALS Ride For Life,

I hope all of you are safe and doing as well as can be expected during these surreal times. I am saddened by the loss of life and the economic hardship many must endure. I am also disappointed not to visit your school on the Annual ALS Ride for Life. It will be strange not being on the road for the first time since 1998, twenty-three years. I can’t imagine what I will feel when it happens. It was a defining event in my family’s life. However, this horrible Covid 19 pandemic is beyond imaginable and is a defining moment for our nation. It has turned our world upside down. We are witnessing historic change. Our students are bewildered, anxious and disoriented. I know you are trying your best to give them normalcy, stability and educational growth. I wanted to share with you our new campaign, “Heroes Hooray”.

We created 18”x 24” corrugated plastic lawn signs to salute and express our gratitude for those battling Covid 19 on the front lines. Several will be placed in front of locations where the first responders and health-care workers work such as hospitals, fire departments, police stations, ambulance squads, etc.

On a separate note, I was wondering if perhaps your students might like to create signs for our “Virtual ALS Ride”. Since we can’t physically travel across Long Island stopping at your school this May, perhaps some of your students would like to draw signs of support at home as they have in the past when we stopped by your school. They can then have a picture taken of them holding the sign and email that photo to our director, Marilyn Sloan at rfldirector@aol.com. We could then post these signs on our ALS Ride For Life web page, as well as our Facebook page.

I thank you for all your support in the fight against ALS and as we approach the month of May, ALS Awareness Month, I look forward to touching base with each and every one of you through a video message I will be emailing you. It is my hope that you will share this message with your students and let them know how much we will be missing them. May we one day soon see an end to both Covid 19 and ALS!

Stay safe,

Chris
