Mr. O'Brien

Good morning and Happy Friday!!

Today is the last day of distance learning lessons! And our SS lesson is a short reading assignment written by me!!

In one of the worst kept secrets, I am writing to let all of you know that I will be retiring as of next Friday June 26th. I have spent the last 36 years teaching 6th grade here in CM. the first 18 at Clayton Huey (it was called Center Moriches Elementary School in 1985 when I started as a 23 year old fresh out of college), and the last 18 here at CMMS. I was fortunate to work with many excellent principals, teachers, staff and especially the wonderful kids of Center Moriches. Each and every group was unique and special in their own way.... but to all of you reading this , you will always be a very special collection of kids!! You will always be my last group!!! So many of you were able to work through the difficulties of distance learning and rise to a wonderful level of accomlishment. Thou I missed seeing each of you every day, I appreciated the notes and greetings which you sent along with your completed lessons! I leave the halls of CMMS with no regrets as I can say that I had the most wonderful job in the world!! I hope that I was able convey my love of Ancient Civilizations and Global History. Many of the concepts and information we learned this year you will study again in HS as well as college if you choose that path. I'm hoping that you take the knowledge that you recieved in room 411 will help you as you move forward in your studies in the future. Continue to shine in all areas of your life, work to overcome difficulties and never stop asking questions.

The thing I will miss the most will be the daily interaction in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, rec field and anywhere on the campus of the Center Moriches Secondary school. The enthusiasm which you brought to school on a daily basis was the fuel which enabled me to give each day my very best and for that I cannot thank you enough. I still will be coaching the Boys Varisty soccer team, so I urge you to stop by a game next fall and say hello! Have a great summer and I look forward to seeing each of you down the road!

Love, Peace, and stay safe....... Mr. O'B
