How to make a mummy

-washing and cleaning the body properly

-removal of the brain- a long thin metal rod /hook through the mummies nose and pulled the brain back out through the nose

small incision on the left side of the abdomen. using that incision the embalmers then pulled out 4 major internal organs

the lungs the stomach the intestines and the liver

dried out and saved for later burial in their own canopic jars

The abdominal cavity is empty they place linen sawdust salt and other absorbable materials The body is then covered from head to toe in Egyptian natron salt for 70 days

after 70 days the body is again washed and covered in scented oils.

The body is now ready for the wrapping process. The embalmers wrap the head, hands and feet first They continue wrapping until the entire body is covered.

As each layer is added the embalmer place amulets and charms on the body for protection and eternal life.

As the embalmers add layers they also add a natural glue called resin to help protect the body.

A solid layer of cloth is placed over the body with a picture of the God of the afterlife, Osiris. Followed by a final layer of resin coated protection

Opening the Mouth Ceremony

Before burial called opening the mouth must take place where gold plated spoon is touched upon the mouth ears eyes and nose so the they can see talk smell and hear in the afterlife.

the Egyptians believe that the mummies spirit to make it to the afterlife must go through a process called weighing the heart heart will be weighed in the afterlife against the feather of truth by the God Anubis

if the heart weights equal to the feather of truth the spirit moves on the the afterlife.

if it weighs more than the feather it is thrown
