MD - Fastest Baseball?
7:24 AM
100 points
Due Apr 9, 3:00 PM
Before you watched the video, try to answer these questions....
1. What's the fastest baseball ever thrown? How fast, in MPH did the ball go?
2. Think about the energy needed to throw a ball so fast. Remember terms such as kinetic energy, potential energy, thermal energy, and friction. These are all factors that determine the speed of a ball.
Now, watch the video, parts 1 and 2. Part 1 is 2:59min and Part 2 is 3:52min. We will discuss this video further in class this week.
Optional Bonus Activity: Jim Abbott is a professional pitcher who was born with only one hand. Most pitchers use two hands. They throw with one hand and catch with the other. But Jim figured out how to do it all with just one hand! Think about what you would do differently if you could only use one hand. How would you put toothpaste on your toothbrush with one hand? How would you open a jar? If you can’t figure out a way to do these tasks, maybe you can invent something that will help.
