Thursday, September 7th, 2023 - Day 1

Our first day of French Immersion Kindergarten in KB at Sherwood School is off to a fantastic start!  Students are getting to know me and each other by name along with getting used to our classroom routines.  I am looking forward to working with the class as a group and with each student individually in the days, weeks and months ahead.  We are going to have a great year together!

Dates to Remember:

Forms:  The following forms were sent home with your child in their zippered bag.  Kindly complete and return them by Monday, September 11th.

Meet the Staff:  I look forward to seeing all students and meeting all parents/guardians at Sherwood School's Meet the Staff night on Tuesday, September 12th for a barbeque at 5:00 pm followed by classrooms session at 6:00 pm or 6:15 pm.

Free White Milk:   ADL will be providing white milk to all Kindergarten students free of charge from Monday, September 11th - Thursday, September 28th.  I will take a daily count from students.

Notes:

Here are a few points of information pertaining to the week and year ahead:

Leader/Assistant:  Our first leader of the day will be Athena and our assistant will be Axton.

Theme:  This week, our theme will be Names.

Language:  French will be our primary language of communication in the classroom.  Your child will steadily adapt to listening to and speaking in French.  You will be amazed!

Morning Arrival:  Sherwood School's first bell of the day rings at 8:25 am.  At that time, our class lines up and enters the school doors closest to the garden, under the supervision of a staff person.  In the event that your child arrives after 8:40 am, kindly walk them to the school’s main office, through the main entrance.  Thank you for helping ensure that they enter the school safely each morning

School Supplies:

Kindly pack the following items in a standard size backpack for your child on our first day:

Please also remember to label all of their belongings.

Peanut/Nut Free School:  Kindly ensure that your child’s snacks and lunch are peanut/nut free.

Cutlery/Microwaves:  Don’t forget to pack cutlery in your child’s lunch box, if they require a fork or spoon.  Unfortunately, a microwave is not available to heat up student lunches in our classroom.

Independence:  Kindly help your child be as independent as possible when getting ready to go outdoors for recesses/afternoon dismissal.  Please ensure they can tie their own shoelaces, if they wears shoes with laces, and can fasten their own sweaters/jackets.

Kindly also have your child practice opening their sports bottle, lunch box and reusable containers so that they can begin eating their snack/lunch right away.

Communication:  I will communicate with parents/guardians in the following ways throughout the school year:

Afternoon Dismissal Routine

Afternoon Dismissal:  Sherwood School's first afternoon dismissal bell rings at 2:35 pm.  At that time, our class exits the school doors closest to the garden.  First, we stop at our designated line up spot and I dismiss students who are being picked up.  Next, we walk to the front of the school, where the school busses are parked.  I drop students off at their designated buses.

Changes/Disruptions:  It would be helpful if you could alert me of any significant changes/disruptions in your child’s life, for example, health concerns.  These could affect their learning/behaviour in our classroom and I would like to be as supportive as possible in such circumstances.  Together, we can ensure that your child experiences a seamless year.

Birthday Party Invitations:  Kindly feel welcome to send invitations to your child's birthday party for classmates in their zippered bag.  I will discreetly put the invitations in the other students' zippered bags.

Toys:  Kindly have your child keep their toys at home as they can be broken or get lost at school.  Merci!

Donations to Classroom Writing Centre:  All families are invited to make a donation of new stationery products, such as envelopes, index cards, stickers or writing paper, to our classroom writing centre at any time throughout their child’s kindergarten year with me.  All students are sure to enjoy these “specialty items”!  Merci beaucoup!

Helping Hand:  All families are also invited to make a donation of an unopened package of compostable forks, napkins, spoons or straws to our classroom snack/lunch station any time throughout their child’s kindergarten year with me.  These items are in hot demand most days!  Merci beaucoup!

Specialist Classes:  Our class's Library, Music and Physical Education schedule is posted under the Parent tab.  It is important that students be prepared for these classes in order to benefit from them fully.  Kindly have your child return their Library book(s) by/on the day before our next Library class and check that they are dressed in comfortable clothing on the days we have Physical Education class.

Have an amazing week!
