Dear Parents/Guardians of Students in KB,

Bonjour!  Welcome to my French Immersion Kindergarten classroom at Sherwood Elementary School.  My name is Jessica McMullen and I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher.  I hope that this year will be an exciting first year of school for them!

First Day of School

Your child’s first day of school will be on Thursday, September 7th, beginning at 9:00 am.  Kindly bring them to the school's gymnasium and I will meet them next to our class list at that time.

PSB BusPlanner

I will be confirming your child's normal end of day dismissal routine with you when you drop them off on the first day.  Kindly have this plan in place prior to coming to the school.

School Supplies:

Kindly pack the following items in a standard size backpack for your child on the first day:

• 1 pair of sneakers for indoor use (must be Velcro unless your child can tie their own shoelaces)

• 1 sports bottle filled with water

• 1 lunch box containing snacks, a lunch and a drink (Peanut/Nut Free) 

• 1 pair earbud headphones

• 1 change of clothes, including a shirt, pants, undergarments and socks, packed in a large Ziploc bag

Please also remember to label all of their belongings.

Peanut/Nut Free School:  Kindly ensure that your child’s snacks and lunch are peanut/nut free.

Afternoon Dismissal on First Day

I will be introducing our regular daily routine on our first day together.  Kindly make every effort to have your child follow their normal afternoon dismissal routine on that day too.  If they will be picked up, I will dismiss them from the schoolyard, outside the doors closest to the garden, at 2:35 pm.  If your child will be riding the bus, I will walk them to their bus at 2:40 pm.  Thank you for helping them establish a familiar routine, from their first day onward.

Communication

I believe that a positive school experience is based on frequent communication between students, parents/guardians and teachers.  I will write an update to parents/guardians at the beginning of each week, via this classroom Google Site.  Weekly Updates will be published under the Parents tab.

Welcome to kindergarten Bag

Kindly keep the bag your child received at Sherwood School’s Welcome to Kindergarten.  It contains materials, such as magnetic letters and numbers, that they will use at home throughout the year.

I look forward to working in partnership with your child and you this coming year.  Together, we are going to make many new discoveries.
