Happy Saint-Patrick's Day!

Monday, March 18th, 2024 - Day 6

It was lovely to meet with you to discuss your child's progress to date during their second term parent-teacher interview.  Thank you for continuing to support their overall development, as it makes all the difference.  I will contact you individually between now and the end of your child's French Immersion Kindergarten year if there is a need for us to speak in person again. 


Dates to Remember:


French Month:  Sherwood School will be celebrating French language and culture in a fun and informative way each day this month. 


Monday, March 18th - Day 6


Michael Pendergast:  Our class will be attending a French musical performance by Michael Pendergast, also known as The Music Man, at 10:00 a.m. on this date.  His show is always a fan favourite! 


Tuesday, March 19th - Day 1


Saint Patrick's Day Spirit Day:  All students are invited to dress in green and white in celebration of Saint Patrick's Day on this date.


Ice Cream Sandwich Fundraiser:  Sherwood School's Grade 6 classes will be selling ice cream sandwiches for $2.00 each until this date as a fundraiser for their end-of-year activities.  The treats will be delivered on Wednesday, March 20th.  Kindly send exact change in an envelope, clearly labelled with your child’s name on it, if you wish to purchase an ice cream sandwich for them.  The treats will be peanut/nut free and there will also be dairy or gluten free options available too.

 

Additional Copy of Second Term Report Card:  If you wish to receive an additional copy of your child’s Second Term report card, kindly write me a note in your child’s Communication Duo tang by this date.


Second Step Program:  Our next Second Step lesson with Mrs. Swan will be on this date.


Wednesday, March 20th - Day 2


Le jour de la Francophonie Spirit Day:  All students are invited to dress in green, purple, red, blue or yellow in celebration of International Francophonie Day on this date.   


Skating:  Our class will be going skating for the last time this year on this date  from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m. at the Cody Banks Arena, as part of our Physical Education curriculum.  Kindly write me a note in your child's communication duo tang by Tuesday, March 19th, if they need to borrow skates and/or a helmet from the school.  Parents are invited to help tie skates and enjoy a skate with our grade level.  Please note that helmets must be worn on the ice by everyone.  If your child will not be skating, they will be participating in an alternative academic activity at the rink.    


Healthy Snack:  All Sherwood School students will be given a frozen blueberry smoothie for snack on this date, free of charge.  The smoothie will be peanut, dairy and gluten free.  

Learning Buddies:  Our next Learning Buddies session with Mme Fraser's Grade 3 French Immersion class will be on this date.


Thursday, March 21st - Day 3


Epilepsy Awareness Day:  All students are invited to dress in purple on this date in support of Epilepsy Awareness Month.  A Sherwood School student and his mother are this year's ambassadors for the Epilepsy Association of the Maritimes.   


Show and Share:  To complement our integrated theme of Saint-Patrick's Day, all students are invited to bring a small green toy for Show and Share on this date.  Kindly help your child introduce themselves and present their toy.  The following sentence structures may be helpful to them:  Bonjour!  Je m’appelle _____.  Voici mon/ma _____.  C'est _____.  (Colour)  Merci!  Please remember to not send toys with your child on days other than Show and Share.


Library Book Return Deadline:  Kindly have your child return all of their Library books by this date.  Merci beaucoup! 


Saint Patrick's Day Party:  Our class will be celebrating Saint Patrick's Day on this date by playing bingo and enjoying a snack together.  I will provide a bite to eat that is packaged individually and labelled as Peanut/Nut and Dairy Free.


Second Term Report Card:  Your child’s Second Term Report Card will be sent home with them on this date.  Kindly complete and return the slip enclosed with the report card, indicating that you received it, by Friday, April 5th.  Merci!


Mid-Term Break:  Kindly note that this date will be the last day of school before the mid-term break.  The first day of school afterward will be Tuesday, April 2nd.


Tuesday, April 2nd - Day 4


Winter Activity Challenge:  Mrs. Kerwin-MacPherson and Mrs. Daun are challenging all families to get active this winter!  Choose a winter physical activity to do as a family, snap an action shot of the activity and send it to ejkerwin@edu.pe.ca.  They will post your photo on the gymnasium bulletin board and will enter your family’s name into a draw for a prize.  The deadline is Tuesday, April 2nd.


Book Exchange:  Our next regularly scheduled book exchange will be on this date.

Here are a few points of information pertaining to the week ahead:


Leader/Assistant:  Our first leader of the day will be Athena and our first assistant will be Axton this week.


Themes:  This week, our theme will be Saint-Patrick's Day.


Eye See…Eye Learn! Program:  Kindly have your child take advantage of the Eye See … Eye Learn! Program before June 30th, 2024.  The Eye See … Eye Learn! program is an eye health and vision awareness program which provides one free eye exam and, if needed, one free pair of glasses to all Kindergarten students across P.E.I.  Please refer to the following link for further information:

Parents to Speak about Occupation/Hobby:  Parents, you are formally invited to speak to our class about your occupation/hobby.  Kindly write me a note in your child’s Communication Duo-tang to schedule a 30 minute block.  Merci beaucoup! 


Recyclables:  Sherwood School's Greening and Grounds Committee has an account at Charlottetown Bottle & Metal, located at 4 MacAleer Drive.  All families are invited to drop off refundable items to credit the committee's account.  Funds raised will be used to support the maintenance of the school grounds and outdoor/environmental projects.  Kindly refer to the following link for further information:
