Dates to Remember:


New School Playground Beautification Fundraiser:  Sherwood School's Greening and Grounds Committee will be doing a basket fundraiser at their upcoming Pancake Breakfast.  Kindergarten Students are invited to donate items for a Beach themed basket.  Items will be collected until Tuesday, May 21st.  Merci beaucoup!


Second Step Program:  Our next Second Step lesson with Mrs. Swan will be on Wednesday May 22nd, Day 1.


Learning Buddies:  Our next Learning Buddies session with Mme Fraser's Grade 3 French Immersion class will be on Thursday, May 23rd, Day 2.


Book Exchange:  Our next book exchange will be on Monday, May 27th, Day 4.  Kindly have your child return their Library book(s) by or on Friday, May 24th, Day 3.  Merci!


Show and Share:  All students are invited to bring a small toy of their choice for Show and Share on Friday, May 24th.   Kindly help your child introduce themselves and present their toy.  The following sentence structures may be helpful to them:  Bonjour!  Je m’appelle _____.  Voici mon/ma _____.  C'est _____. (Colour)  C'est _____. (Size)  Merci!  Please remember to not send toys with your child on days other than Show and Share.


Kindergarten Spring Concert:  Our class will be performing in Sherwood School's Kindergarten Spring Concert, entitled Sounds of Spring, on Thursday, May 30th at 6:00 pm.  Further information to follow.


Parent Chaperones for End-of-Year Field Trips:  Our class will require a minimum of one parent chaperone for each of our end-of-year field trips.  If you are able to accompany us on one of them, kindly write me a note in your child’s Communication duo-tang, indicating which one, by Thursday, May 30th and I will provide you with a letter to obtain a Criminal Records Check/Vulnerable Sector Screen free of charge.  All parent chaperones are required to submit a Criminal Records Check/Vulnerable Sector Screen to the school’s office prior to the date of the field trip.  The dates are below:


Thursday, June 13th - Charlottetown Fire Department and City Cinema


Thursday, June 20th - Victoria Park


Monday, June 24th - Centennial Park for Prehistoric Island Tours Presentation (Rain Date - Tuesday, June 25th)


Permission Forms for End-of-Year Field Trips:  Kindly sign and return your child's end-of-year field trip permission forms by Thursday, May 30th.


Kindergarten Orientation Day:  Save the date!  Kindly note that there will be no school for current Kindergarten students on Friday, June 7th as it will be an orientation day for next year's students.  There will be regular school for all other grades.   


Payment for End-of-Year Field Trips:  Payment for your child's end-of-year field trips can be made online, through their HotLunches account, or by cash until Friday, June 21st.  If paying by cash, kindly send exact change in an envelope, clearly labelled with your child’s name on it and the purpose of the payment.  The total fee for all three of our end-of-year field trips is $13.00.

Here are a few points of information pertaining to the week ahead:


Leader/Assistant:  Our first leader of the day will be Harriet and our first assistant will be Henry this week.


Theme:  This week, our theme will be Space again.


Canada's 30x30 Nature Challenge:  Our class will be participating in the David Suzuki Foundation's 30 minutes for 30 days in May nature challenge.  We will be going outside to learn, for up to 30 minutes a day, in the green spaces on school property or at Rosedale Park.  By doing so, we will be creating a healthy nature habit while also addressing curriculum outcomes.  Kindly ensure that your child is dressed comfortably for the weather every day as we will be going outside rain or shine!  


Eye See…Eye Learn! Program:  Kindly have your child take advantage of the Eye See … Eye Learn! Program before June 30th, 2024.  The Eye See … Eye Learn! program is an eye health and vision awareness program which provides one free eye exam and, if needed, one free pair of glasses to all Kindergarten students across P.E.I.  Please refer to the following link for further information: 


Sun Hat/Sunglasses/Sunscreen:  Kindly pack a sun hat and sunglasses in your child’s backpack, if you would like them to wear them during recess times.  Please also apply unscented sunscreen on your child at home, if you would like them to wear sunscreen at school.  Merci!


Sweater/Sweatshirt:  Kindly send a sweater/sweatshirt with your child each day.  Our classroom can be cool in the mornings, despite the warmer weather.


Water Bottle(s):  Kindly remember to send 1 or 2 filled water bottle(s) with your child each day.  Our classroom can be warm in the afternoons.


Assessment and Evaluation:  I will be working with each student individually to assess their progress in fine motor, early numeracy and early literacy development in the coming weeks.  Our daily routine will be adjusted slightly to accommodate this activity.
