Happy Holidays!

Monday, December 18th, 2023 - Day 5

I would like to extend warm wishes for the Holiday season to all students and families.  I look forward to settling back into routine upon our return to school in the New Year!  


Dates to Remember:


Our class will be celebrating the upcoming Holiday season in a fun way each day this week and next.  All students are invited to participate in each theme day!  


Monday, December 18th - Day 5


Holiday Colours Day:  Students are invited to dress in green, red and/or white.


Absence:  Unfortunately, I will be absent on this date.  Madame Barbara Smith will be replacing me for the day.  I will be attending a committee meeting for French Immersion Kindergarten teachers. 


Tuesday, December 19th - Day 6


Holiday Headgear:  Students are invited to wear a holiday hat or headband. 


Absence:  Unfortunately, I will be absent on this date.  Madame Barbara Smith will be replacing me for the day.


Holiday Kahoot:  We will be playing Holiday themed Kahoot while we eat lunch, prepared by the Grade 6 Leadership Students.


Wednesday, December 20th - Day 1


Sherwood School Spirit Day:  Students are invited to dress in green and/or white to show their pride in Sherwood School!  Your child could wear their crested t-shirts and/or hoodies, if they have one.


Random Acts of Kindness Day:  Students are invited to lend a helping hand to each other.

Good Manners:  Students are also invited to be mindful to use their good manners in French by saying S'il te plait! and Merci! to each other too!


Second Step Program:  We will have our next Second Step lesson with Mrs. Swan.


Healthy Snack:  All Sherwood School students will be given a frozen yogurt tube for snack.  There will also be a lactose-free alternative available for those who are allergic to dairy. 


Learning Buddies:  We will have our next Learning Buddies session with Mme Fraser's Grade 3 French Immersion class.


Holiday Themed Stations:  Sherwood School's Grade 6 leadership students will be organizing Holiday themed stations for each grade level.  Students from each English and French Immersion Kindergarten class will be grouped together and rotate through a variety of 5 different activities, one in each of the classrooms.


Candy Gram Delivery:  Candy grams will be delivered to students, which will coincide with coincide with Random Acts of Kindness Day.


Thursday, December 21st - Day 2


Holiday Sock and/or Tie Day:  Students are invited to wear holiday socks and/or a holiday tie.  Any tie will suit the occasion, including a regular tie,  bow tie, or homemade tie made out of Christmas wrapping paper, ribbon or bows, for example.


HO! HO! HO!:  Students are invited to say Ho! Ho! Ho! instead of French greetings like Bonjour! or Au revoir!


Movie and Popcorn:  We will be watching a short French movie and enjoying some popcorn made in the school's popcorn machine.  


Holiday Themed Bingo:  Sherwood School's Grade 6 leadership students will be organizing Holiday themed bingo for each grade level.  We will be playing while we eat lunch. 


Friday, December 22nd - Day 3


Onesie or Pajama Day:  Students are invited to wear a onesie or pajamas and bring a stuffed toyWe will also watch a short French show while we eat lunch. 


Skating:  Our class will be going skating from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. at the Cody Banks Arena, as part of our Physical Education curriculum.  Parents of Kindergarten students are invited to help tie skates and enjoy a skate with our grade level.  Please note that helmets must be worn on the ice by everyone.  If your child will not be skating, they will be participating in an alternative academic activity at the school.  


Hot Chocolate/Cold Apple Cider Party:  I will provide hot chocolate/cold apple cider and a snack that is packaged individually and labelled as Peanut/Nut Free.  It will consist of bananas, mandarin oranges and MadeGood granola bars.


Show and Share:  All students are invited to bring a small toy of their choice for Show and Share on Friday, December 22ndKindly help your child introduce themselves and present their toy.  The following sentence structures may be helpful to them:  Bonjour!  Je m’appelle _____.  Voici mon/ma _____.  Please remember to not send toys with your child on days other than Show and Share.


Library Book Return Deadline:  Kindly have your child return all of their Library books by this date.  Merci beaucoup!


Holiday Break:  Kindly note that this date will be the last day of school before the Holiday Break.  The first day of school in the New Year will be Monday, January 8th, 2024.  It will be Day 4 of the cycle.


Book Exchange:  Our next regularly scheduled book exchange will be on Monday, January 8th, Day 4Please have your child return their Library book(s) by or on Friday, December 22nd, Day 3.  Merci!


Notes:


Here are a few points of information pertaining to the week ahead:


Leader/Assistant:  Our first leader of the day will be Henry and our first assistant will be Issac this week.


Theme:  This week, our theme will be Family Holiday Celebrations.


Indoor Sneakers:  I will be sending your child's indoor sneakers home with them on Friday, December 22nd for you to check for fit and wear.  Kindly remember to send a pair back with them Monday, January 8th.  The sneakers must be Velcro unless your child can tie their own shoelaces. 


Grade 6 Leadership Student Holiday Activities:  Kindly ask your child to tell you all about the fun Holiday themed activities that the Grade 6 leadership students have prepared for all students of Sherwood School.   


Extra Hat and Mittens/Gloves:  Kindly double-check that your child has an extra hat and an extra pair of mittens/gloves in their backpack each day.  Please remember to label them too!  Merci!
