Chess

The Junior Primary Chess club has grown in both numbers and skills. Although their bodies are small, their minds are developing thinking strategies whilst conquering their opponents on the chessboards. The classroom is a noise and bustle with conversation, and enthusiasm for this intellectual game. The JP Chess Club meets every Friday afternoon from 12:30 until 1:30. Mrs Whitehead’s Pre-Primary classroom transforms into a hub of strategic thinking and joyful camaraderie. Unconventional playing styles add to the charm, with some children lying on their tummies, while others sit on tables, completely absorbed in the game.

Among the children are beginners taking their first steps into the world of chess. Some are competitive players honing their skills, and all are exploring new strategies while contemplating their next moves. A particular favourite among the group is playing the "Knight’s Game," a practice exercise designed to teach strategies. This engaging activity has the children enthralled, as they navigate the chessboard with newfound confidence.

The JP Chess Club at Clifton provides a unique opportunity for these young minds to develop critical thinking, problem solving, and social skills, all while having fun with some friends. These are the right ingredients to cultivate a Champion lifestyle.
