Staff Development - 15 July
In the second intensive workshop of our ‘Safe Harbour school programme’ with our Bellavista colleagues, we continued the drive towards developing a curated, specialist focus upon bringing about system-wide change over the years ahead.
The premise behind the staff development was that all children are able to develop learning strategies to help them cope with any new learning situation. The belief that every brain is modifiable is embedded in the philosophy. Together, teachers and parents mediate learning experiences in a dynamic partnership.
Monday’s workshop focused on the importance of providing a multi-sensory environment that provides a safe space for children to regroup, regulate and unwind. We were also introduced to sensory strategies to use in the classroom environment.
Specific learning difficulties were also explored, as well as how to support all children in a school environment according to their cognitive profiles. This was done practically and through group work.
A thoroughly enjoyable workshop, we emerged having had a wonderful opportunity to collaborate and share in learning on our continued journey.
