Grade 00 - Termly Update
Term 3 kicked off with a strong focus on serving others, starting with our celebration of Mandela Day on 18 July. The children took part in thoughtful activities such as colouring, scenting, and decorating playdough with glitter. These handmade gifts were sent to Siyakhula Rosetta School and Sikhulile Midlands Community College, bringing joy to many.
With the 2024 Olympics approaching, we embraced the excitement by learning about this global event through creative projects, including art and baking. A highlight was watching an Olympic Puppet Show, which was not only entertaining but also interactive and educational. The term ended with our very own Mini Olympics, where the children showcased their skills, participated with enthusiasm, and most importantly, had loads of fun! I am incredibly proud of all the Shongololos for giving their best, cheering each other on, and, of course, for the parent tug-of-war, which the parents eagerly joined!
Literacy Week added even more excitement to the term, featuring visits from authors, original creations inspired by Dr. Seuss’s Cat in the Hat, and a delightful performance by Hooked on Books. We also enjoyed a theatre outing to watch the JP Show What's the Time, Mr. Wolf? where we proudly cheered for our older siblings performing on stage.
This term was also full of exploration! We discovered the famous five-finger tree on campus, which now boasts a surprising “sixth finger” branch. Music brought us together as we learned new songs and played the drums. One of our biggest adventures was experimenting with lines, curves, and circles. We observed concentric circles in nature and collaborated as a class to create our own. During Arbor Week, we teamed up with the Grade 7 children to plant our first White Stinkwood tree in the valley.
We wrapped up the term by celebrating our diverse heritages. The children dressed in traditional outfits, embracing the spirit of a rainbow nation—different, yet united!
It was a term filled with fun, learning, and unforgettable memories!
