This term has been rich with memorable moments, and it’s a reminder of how fortunate we are as a community. These special times have shaped the unique spirit of Clifton, leaving a lasting impact on those who have walked through our gates.

One of the highlights this term has been the opportunity for our boarders to enjoy Wednesday dinners with Mr and Mrs Prinsloo. With our boarding numbers increasing, and with this being the final term for our Grade 7 day scholars who wish to convert to boarding, it has become even more apparent just how much Clifton means to everyone involved. Clifton is not just a school—it’s a feeling, a nurturing environment where those surrounding our boarders show great care and intentionality.

The atmosphere created by the children, particularly through their enthusiastic war cries and singing that echo across the campus, is something to behold. The leadership from our senior boarders is especially commendable. As a reward for their responsibilities in the boarding houses, they have been granted certain privileges, which they’ve enjoyed during breakfasts and suppers. Despite heading into their final term with excitement, they continue to engage in the playful activities that keep them childlike—exactly as it should be for as long as possible.

As we approach the short holiday break, we encourage everyone to take time to rest, reflect, and appreciate the people who matter most. This pause offers an opportunity to celebrate our achievements and prepare for the challenges ahead. A recent highlight was our visit to Michaelhouse to witness the outstanding UP Youth Choir—an extraordinary experience that adds to the many enriching opportunities our boarders enjoy.

Our formal Spring Dinner, a special occasion, was a delightful way to close the term. Additionally, our Grade 7s took to the stage to perform their much-anticipated Holes play for the parents, showcasing both their talent and the confidence they have gained during their time at Clifton.

The recent Old Boys’ Day lunch and Class of 2019 dinner ‘Reunions’, were other wonderful occasions, full of heartfelt stories and treasured memories of life at Clifton. Hearing former students speak with such joy and nostalgia about their time here reminds us of the deep bonds formed within these walls. For these alumni, Clifton remains more than just a school—it is the place that helped shape them into the remarkable individuals they are today, and their belief in this safe-haven endures with pride.

It is truly a privilege to be part of such a remarkable school, and to understand what it means to be a part of the Clifton boarding experience.

X-Factor Boarding Weekend: A Memorable Adventure on our Clifton Campus

The X-Factor Boarding weekend on the Clifton Campus was an unforgettable experience, bringing children from across South Africa together for two action-packed days of fun, creativity, and community bonding. From the moment everyone arrived, it was clear that excitement filled the air.

The weekend kicked off with staff and boarders welcoming guests with warm smiles, whilst the children were registering, their parents were treated to a delicious lunch from the harvest table. The parents gathered for an informative session with Mr Prinsloo, who offered insights into the Clifton boarding community and its support team, the children dove headfirst into fort-building activities led by Mr Quinn and the boarding staff, sparking their imaginations and teamwork.

The day continued with a picnic lunch (build-a-roll) in top woods, followed by an adrenaline-pumping bobsleighing session. Laughter echoed across the campus as friendships blossomed, and everyone immersed themselves in the soccer games; all set in a festive atmosphere.

All the children gathered for a traditional braai, enjoying boerewors rolls, salads, and drinks. Meanwhile, fires were set in both the dining hall and the Lapha bonfire were crackling, adding warmth to the gathering. The evening’s highlight came as the children enjoyed smores around the bonfire, followed by spirited house war cries. The energy was contagious, as both houses competed with enthusiasm, their voices filling the night sky.

The next morning began with a light breakfast with milo/ hot chocolate, rusks and juice. Resident Sister Penny made sure all the children were well cared for, checking in with them during breakfast. The children then set off on a serene walk to Cliff’s Dam, enjoying the fresh morning air and a packed snack along the way.

After their walk, a hearty brunch was served, fuelling everyone for the final activities of the weekend. Bags were packed, and the children eagerly took on the obstacle course, showing off their determination and team spirit.

While the children competed, visiting parents were treated to a delightful tea at the Chapel. The weekend concluded with an inspiring message from the headmaster and staff, who thanked everyone for making the event such a success.

With packed lunches in hand, the children reunited with their parents after the service, marking the end of an eventful and joyous weekend. The X-Factor Boarding Weekend created lasting memories and strengthened the bonds within the Clifton community, leaving everyone looking forward to the next adventure… albeit exhausted!
