For the more superstitious amongst us, Friday 13th is an unlucky date. Not for Clifton! We welcomed our Grade 7 class of 2019 back to Clifton for an evening of reminiscing, laughter and a good banter… and a dig into their 2019 time capsule.
Monday's assembly was a feast for the eyes. The chapel was awash with our children in a real fruit-salad of cultural and traditional dress, all worn with a palpable sense of pride - a striking contrast to the misty greyness that the weather dished up!
Friday was a red-letter day for the school. The Cliftones were at the forefront of our welcome to a cohort of the pre-1970's old boys and, for some, their respective wives and partners.
The theme ‘Once Upon a Treetop’ led to a wonderful immersion in literature across the school. Kicking off with a costume parade featuring almost every book character imaginable, from Captain Haddock to Tintin, Batman to Rapunzel, a variety of (Where is) Wally’s and villains… and even Bagger Vance (in headmaster form), the week began with a buzz of excitement.
We were honoured to have Clifton Durban come and visit us, sharing their musical talent with our Clifton Notties children and staff. To start the concert, one of our talented pupils, Masedi, performed a beautiful violin piece that captivated the audience and set the tone for the afternoon.
In the second intensive workshop of our ‘Safe Harbour school programme’ with our Bellavista colleagues, we continued the drive towards developing a curated, specialist focus upon bringing about system-wide change over the years ahead.
We were most fortunate to have hosted a team from Bellavista school in Johannesburg to deliver an inspiring, fulfilling workshop to our parents on Monday 15 July. With broad experience in education, psychology, and occupational therapy, the overarching theme was towards making Clifton a ‘safe harbour’ for its children and the broader community.
It was with great enthusiasm that the school embarked on their ‘67 minutes for Mandela’ initiatives, commemorating the 67 years that Nelson Mandela invested in social upliftment.
