Grade 1 - Termly Update
The Grade 1 children have continued to make us very proud this term, in all areas. They have competed in sports festivals most Tuesdays and have shown good sportsmanship at these fixtures. They are enjoying reading and writing with more independence and it is always a joy to see how much they can do by the end of the third term. We had a magical few days during literacy week, which was themed “Once upon a tree top”. Our beautiful campus lent itself to lots of mystery and adventure, as the trees came to life and we enjoyed spending time reading under the trees and even in the trampoline fort! Our children dressed up as various characters from a book and it was wonderful to see their love of books come to life. We learnt so much from our visiting authors and I am sure a few children have been inspired to write their very own stories. Hooked on Books are always amazing and the children were very engaged in their performance. We really enjoyed the cross section of activities throughout the week. The Interhouse Mini-Olympics saw our children giving their all on the athletics track and it was heartwarming to see them cheering each other on. They loved dressing up in mom or dad’s clothes and racing across the finish line!
Our Junior Primary production, “What’s the Crime Mr Wolf?” was a real hit and we were very proud of our performance! Singing and dancing along to the catchy songs was a highlight and the lessons learnt about the food chain and nature, were all discussed in detail, adding to the overall success of the production. We went on to celebrate Arbor Day by planting two trees in the newly cleared area below Davies field. This was dirty, hands-on work, as we dug deep, to ensure the soil was rich and healthy. We look forward to checking on our trees after the holidays, to ensure that they have survived. The JP Fort Building Day was a great way to mix with the other JP children in our houses. The children worked hard in their teams to produce a comfy, attractive and practical fort, for both humans and duiker to enjoy! The competition was intense, but fun was definitely had by all. Both classes had the opportunity to do their class assemblies in the Chapel this term. We are very proud of how well they managed to speak in front of the audience and how much they enjoyed their time on stage. The CEA tools of Self Regulation, Sharing Behaviour, as well as Exploration have been wonderful topics for discussion both in the classroom and on the playground.
We are all looking forward to a week off to recover and rest, before taking on the final term of grade one!
