Pre 1970 Old Boys' Reunion - 6 September
Friday was a red-letter day for the school. The Cliftones were at the forefront of our welcome to a cohort of the pre-1970's old boys and, for some, their respective wives and partners. Mr. Seamus Smythe (who spearheaded the reunion) made his way from the UK, with another gentleman, Mr. Ted Nutting, having arrived from the Cape, with other returnees coming from as far afield as the Free State and Durban.
Having shared a few stories of the days of yore in the Chapel, Mr. Tim Stubbs presented Mr. Prinsloo with a treasure he had found near our stream in 1956 - a rifle barrel! While you will have to read the end-of-term "Barefoot Banter" for more information, the day was a real 'feel good' experience that allowed for much reminiscing and laughter, as well as a challenge to uphold our traditions. A guided tour of sorts down memory lane finished up in the Dining Hall (evidently it's much the same on the outside, although the grub is far superior these days!).
There were so many 'take aways' from the day, one of the most poignant, perhaps, being from Mr. Jake Ellington, who spoke of the happiness and calmness of the current children, and how fortunate they are in being provided with such a wide variety of opportunities to 'light their spark'. What a gift.
