Little bees, busy as can be,
Learning and growing with glee!
You've had a term that's full of delight,
Building puzzles, shining bright!
Term 3 kicked off with a strong focus on serving others, starting with our celebration of Mandela Day on 18 July. The children took part in thoughtful activities such as colouring, scenting, and decorating playdough with glitter. These handmade gifts were sent to Siyakhula Rosetta School and Sikhulile Midlands Community College, bringing joy to many.
The Grade 0 Chameleons were excited to head off on their third outing this year. Our destination took us along the picturesque Fort Nottingham road to the farm, ‘Lion’s Bush’, the home and pottery studio of Mrs Sam Pitout – a renowned local artist.
The Grade 1 children have continued to make us very proud this term, in all areas. They have competed in sports festivals most Tuesdays and have shown good sportsmanship at these fixtures. They are enjoying reading and writing with more independence and it is always a joy to see how much they can do by the end of the third term. We had a magical few days during literacy week, which was themed “Once upon a tree top”.
As the end of the year is fast approaching, the buzz of activity and creativity in Grade 2 continues!
In the beginning of August our school celebrated Literacy week, which was themed The Faraway Tree. Our grade 2s dressed up as their favourite book characters and enjoyed a magically transformed playground filled with secret surprises. Later in the same week, our Grade 2s strength and athletic prowess was put to the test as we held our annual Interhouse Mini Olympics. Perseverance and determination shone through brightly as our learners completed each event with gusto.
The day's entertainment kicked off with thrilling performances by Molo and friends from the estates, who entertained the kids with their energetic Ukugida (Zulu traditional dance), Inkondlo (poems) and Gumboot dances. Mr. Chapata mesmerised the audience with his soulful mbira playing, while our talented Grade 7 students had everyone moving with their Amapiano dance routine. Some of our Grade 3 students also showed off their moves to music from different cultures, highlighting the diversity and inclusivity of our school.
The Clifton Campus was alive with energy as the Grade 1, 2, and 3 children gathered for a thrilling day of fort building! The boys and girls eagerly embraced the challenge, using the natural resources at their disposal—branches, leaves, and sand—to construct both imaginative and practical forts. The grounds were soon filled with the sights and sounds of nature-inspired creativity.
Under the watchful eye of Lord Feathers of Eiderdown, Fabletown's Forest Court convened to bring charges against the notorious Mr. Wolf for his dastardly deeds. The courtroom buzzed with anticipation as prosecutors Mr. Hugh Mann and his assistant, Justin Case, called a colourful array of characters to testify—from the secretive Johnny Mole (secret agent) to the Three Little Pigs and Red Riding Hood. But were these well-known fairy-tale characters really as they seemed? And how could a non-vegetarian human accuse a wolf of being a meat eater?
The Pre-Primary children were treated to an Olympic Puppet Show presented by Heather and Jabu from Puppet World. They were all spellbound by the amazing handmade horses, gymnasts, and boxers, all brought to life by this talented duo.
The mini-Olympics for the JP children was absolute joy. The excitement and enthusiasm of the kids, supportive cheers from the parents, and the playful races combined with the more competitive ones, created a fantastic atmosphere.
