Super Bowl LVII

By Andrew Majnoun, Ansel Chiou, and Colin Liu

Super Bowl LVII (57) between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles took place on February 12, 2023. It was played in State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.  This showdown is one of the largest cultural events in the country each year. To get to this stage, the two teams faced off against the best teams in their respective conferences, the NFC and AFC.

Half-time Show

Rihanna headlined the Super Bowl halftime show with her first stage appearance in six years.  According to Entertainment Weekly she performed twelve songs:”----- Better Have My Money”; “Where Have You Been”; “Only Girl (In The World)”; “We Found Love”; “Rude Boy”; “Work”; “Wild Thoughts”; “Pour It Up”; “All of the Lights”; “Run This Town”; “Umbrella”, and “Diamonds”.  She did all of this while pregnant on a stage with seven floating elements.

The Game

The final score was 38-35 Chiefs, giving quarterback Patrick Mahomes his second Super Bowl title. The Kansas City quarterback had been struggling with a minor ankle injury heading into the big game.  Both teams had stellar 16-3 seasons.  It was a tight game, with both teams neck and neck.  The Eagles started the game with a QB sneak on their first drive.  The Chiefs responded with a touchdown pass from Mahomes to star tight-end Travis Kelce.  The second quarter was in between two failed attempts to score on their subsequent drives, but the Eagles got things started again with a touchdown to another star, A.J. Brown.  The Chiefs again, keeping with the Eagles scored off of a strip sack.  Another quarterback run from Jalen Hurts kept the Eagles ahead, but only just.  After, the Eagles then scored a field goal to close out the half.  The Chiefs started the next half with a running touchdown.  The Eagles ahead 27-21 scored another field goal.  Clawing back, Kadarius Toney scored a touchdown off of a check-down pass from Mahomes.  The Chiefs then scored again with the same type of play, but on the other side.  A final push from the Eagles got the score to Eagles 33-35 Chiefs.  To keep the game alive, they also scored a 2-pt attempt.  For the win though, to deny the Eagles, the Chiefs kicked a final field goal in the 11th second of the game.

The Advertisements

There were multiple multi-million dollar commercials in the LVII super bowl. An ad by “Popcorners” represented the popular TV show Breaking Bad. This ad ultimately cost 6.5-7 million dollars. Another ad featured the women’s flag football star, Diana Flores that promoted women in football. It is estimated that every 30-second commercial cost about 7 million dollars on average.

COOPER KEEFE, Power forward/center.

Miles: Hey Cooper. How are you feeling about basketball?

Cooper: I feel confident, and we have a winning streak!

Miles: That sounds great. Speaking of feelings, how do you feel when you step onto the court?

Cooper:

Miles: Thank you Cooper. How has your experience been on the courts?

Cooper: Pretty good. My team has great chemistry, but we need more  communication.

Miles: Another court question for ya, how would you describe the team's experience level?

Cooper: Pretty strong. A bunch of us, like Matthew, have had a lot of experience. We also have players like Christian, new to the courts.

Miles: Who has been your basketball mentor throughout the season?

Cooper: Honestly, I feel that Ben M. has really taught me a good mindset, but a lot of it is my parents.

Miles: Do you feel pressured when almost 100 people are staring at you, promoting/demoting your victory? It seems really tough to handle.

Cooper:  If you miss, you’ll let everyone down, but if you get it, you’ll be a champ.

Miles: Do you think that your team has a shot at victory this season?

Cooper: Oh, yeah. We have a lot of offense and defense threats, and an overall good team.

Miles: That sounds pretty good, Keefe. This is Miles Rowan, wrapping up for today. Any last things to say before we end the interview?

Cooper: That's for having me, and Go Bucs!

Miles: That sounds awesome. This is Miles and Cooper signing off for today. Word hard and keep trying Bucs!
