As a result of the negative behaviors in the bathrooms, a new bathroom organization has been put in place. Each grade has been assigned a bathroom, and a colored pass that corresponds to the bathroom. The goal of the new system is to try to figure out who is vandalizing the bathrooms if needed, as well as using sign outs which can differ from class to class.
Below are the color passes for each grade and their assigned bathroom
6th Grade - Pink pass
Bathroom is located at the end of upper b wing (across from the stairs and near the elevator)
7th Grade - Beige pass
Bathroom is located in the middle of upper b wing
7th Grade - Blue pass
Bathroom is located in the middle of lower b wing
8th Grade - Bronze pass
Bathroom is located at the end of lower b wing (across from the stairs and near the elevator)
Arts and Wellness
Arts and Wellness classes in A or B hall have all of the bathroom passes, and you are supposed to go to your grade assigned bathroom.
Arts and Wellness classes on the other side of the building, like music, PE, or STEM have a gold pass, and the bathroom is next the LGI and auditorium.
Like anything else, there are pros and cons to the new organizational structure. When asked about what they thought about the new bathrooms, one eighth grader said, “I feel like it’s unnecessary. Especially for 8th graders, it’s a really long and annoying walk. I understand the point, but I just feel like this isn’t the way to go about it.” Another eighth grader said, “I get we o it so that it’s easier to catch who vandalized the bathrooms, and it seems like 8th grade isn’t doing it (so better bathrooms for us), but when we have classes upstairs, it’s really annoying and inefficient to have to walk all the way downstairs. Plus, on an education standpoint, you miss more class time walking to the designated bathroom rather than the closest one.” A seventh grader stated, “I dislike that we have to walk all the way to a specific bathroom just for our grade even though there might be one right next to your classroom.” A student from sixth grade voiced, “I dislike the bathroom organization because if you’re downstairs during art class for example, and you’re a sixth grader, you have to walk up the stairs and down the hall to get to the right bathroom. I think we should switch back because I haven’t heard about or seen any crazy things in the bathroom, and I feel that this isn’t necessary any more.” While many students dislike the new setup, the main goal is to minimize the vandalization of the bathrooms, and it seems to be working. So for now, this is how we have to do things, but if the situation continues to improve, it’s possible we will go back to how it was before in the future.
