Vaccine for Kids Ages 5-11
On Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021, the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine was officially approved for kids ages 5-11. Before the officiating and distribution to the public, over 3,100 children were given the vaccine and had no serious side effects. The new vaccine differs slightly from the vaccines already being distributed to adults and teens. The vaccine for younger kids has a smaller dosage and the needle used is smaller. The new vaccines are marked with orange caps to help distinguish them from the purple-capped vaccines given to older people. The side effects of the vaccine are almost identical, however, to the older vaccines. Some people experience pain in the arm the shot was given in, tiredness, and a headache, while others barely react at all. Getting vaccines to younger age groups means that more families can get together fully in person once again.
Booster for Kids Ages 12-15
On Monday, January 2nd, 2022, the Pfizer Covid booster was approved for ages 12-15. Getting the booster helps strengthen your immunity to Covid and helps prevent you from getting sick. As well as approving the booster for older kids and teens, the FDA also shortened the time that must be waited in between doses of the Pfizer vaccine from 6 months to 5 months. Side effects of the booster are similar to the two doses prior-pain in the arm, tiredness, and headache. Stay safe, and happy new year!
