You may have heard about all the terrible things that have come out of social media, but not everything is bad. There are also many positive trends online, some of which we've listed below.
What is a trend?
A trend is when something is “popular” or viral, meaning it is very popular right now, and a lot of people are doing it. It could be a fashion trend, dance trend, or a different trend that doesn't fall into one of these categories.
Virtual Catch
During COVID when people couldn’t go out with friends, they started a trend where you throw a ball at your house then someone would show up in another video and they would catch it.
Applebees Trend
After Walker Hayes released his song “Fancy Like” went viral with his daughter doing a dance they made for the song. After that it took off and people started recreating it like the renegade. Families, kids, adults, and parents with kids started doing and it became a trend that brought people together.
VSCO Trend
The VSCO trend is where you dress and act “trendy”; you wear scrunchies, over sized t-shirts, and a shell necklace. You also care about saving the turtles so you use reusable metal straws.
Ice Bucket Challenge
The ice bucket challenge spreads awareness for the disease ALS. ALS is a disease that attacks your brain and spinal cord, and your nerves basically die. This trend came back the summer COVID hit, and the challenge was that you have to dump an ice bucket on your head. If you didn't do it in 24 hours, you would owe the person toilet paper. A report from research firm, RTI International, found that donations from the 2014 Ice Bucket Challenge helped the ALS Association increase its annual funding for research worldwide by 187%.
