**If you would like to choose your own books you have to get teacher’s approval prior to starting. Novels need to have literary merit in order to receive credits.
Students are to complete the following for EACH credit:
For each book you read you must produce the following:
1 page plot summary with examples from the text explaining the plot
1 page reflection: Did you like the book? Why or why not? Is it believable?
1 page about the 13 literary terms above in the book you read. 1 paragraph for each term including examples from the book (in order to receive an "A" or a "B", students must have examples):
antagonist
atmosphere
characters
climax
denouement
figure of speech
foreshadowing
tone
motivation
plot
point of view
protagonist and/or foil to the protagonist
theme
1 page critical analyses of one of the main characters using the following questions:
-Is the character believable, why or why not?
-Is the character the protagonist or antagonist?
-Is the conflict the character faces internal, external or both?
-What is the characters motivation?
-Is the character static (doesn’t change) or dynamic (does) change. How? Give examples.
-What did you like or not like about the character? Be sure to give examples.
-What would you change about the character if you were the author?
1 page: Pretend you are a critic of the novel. Write an opinion piece on the novel:
-Is this novel relevant to today's culture?
-If there was an actor/actress for this novel, who would it be and why?
-How did the setting affect the overall novel?
-What was the timeline? If you wrote the novel, would you have written it the same way (Point of View, Character, theme, etc.)?
-Would you recommend this novel to your friends? family?
