Welcome Back Activity
What are you looking forward to this year?
Padlet Message Board
Students were asked, "What are you looking forward to this year?" They shared their responses on a digital message board called Padlet using colorful sticky notes and emojis to show their excitement. They could also "like" other people's posts. Many students expressed their anticipation for clubs, classes, and spending time with friends and teachers.
Digital Footprint
Digital citizenship is a very important part of the technology curriculum. Students continue to learn ways that they can keep themselves safe while enjoying their time online. One aspect of digital citizenship is having a positive digital footprint. A digital footprint is the trail of traceable data you leave behind when you are navigating online. Students learn that first and foremost, they should have a parent or responsible adult's permission before going online. They should have a clear understanding of what sites are appropriate for them. To ensure a positive digital footprint students should visit sites that are educational, age-appropriate and parent approved. Using Google Docs, each student created a flier with the words they have chosen to describe THEIR digital footprint.
Digital Citizenship
Digital citizenship lessons are taught throughout the school year. Students have an understanding on how to be responsible and respectful online citizens through our class activities. This includes being kind and considerate of others, understanding the impact of their words and actions, keeping their personal information, as well as that of others, private, and the importance of adult supervision by a trusted adult. By instilling these principles starting in kindergarten, students learn to navigate the internet with a sense of awareness, responsibility, and empathy.
Padlet - Sandbox
Online safety slide presentation
The students are collaborating on a slide presentation about digital safety using a new program called Padlet Sandbox. They have watched informational videos on various topics from Common Sense Media, taken notes, and are now working together to post the information and add decorative elements. Padlet Sandbox allows them to incorporate images, videos, backgrounds, colors, and more.
Code.org & Scratch
Students learned the fundamentals of coding using the block-based platforms, Code.org and Scratch programming. These programs offer a fun and engaging way to learn about problem-solving, critical thinking, and algorithmic thinking.
Modeling
TinkerCAD (Computer Aided Design) & 3D printing
Tinkercad is like a free, online program that allows students to create 3-dimensional designs. As part of the digital citizenship curriculum, students learned about computer viruses and how to protect their devices. They designed their own virus using their imagination on what they thought a virus would look like. They picked the color they wanted for their virus and printed them on the 3D printer.
