Reading Wands
Students created small reading wands using a program called Tinkercad. They had the option to design either their class mascot, a heart, or the Sacred Heart symbol to place at the tip of their wand. Tinkercad includes a scribble feature that allows students to draw on a touchscreen, transforming their drawings into 3D figures.
Keyboarding
Students are introduced to keyboarding starting in kindergarten using Dance Mat Typing. They are encourage to keep both hands on the computer at all times, and to use the proper finger placement if possible. At this level accuracy is more important that speed.
Digital Citizenship
Digital citizenship is an important part of the technology curriculum starting in kindergarten. Students learn responsible and ethical online behavior through class activities using Common Sense Media and iSafe Lessons. These lesson incorporate videos, handouts and hands-on online activities with topics such as, Online Safety and Responsibility, Online Behavior, Digital Footprint, Cyberbullying, and more.
Mouse Practice
Students in Kindergarten continue to work on mouse and touchpad use. Activities on the Tech Cafe website eoncourage students to use the mouse to left-click, right-click, click and drag, and double-click. If using the touchpad, students learn understand how to use "two fingers" to simulate right-clicking using a mouse. They fun activities make it easy for students to learn they essential skills.
MyStory App
"The MyStory app powers kids to create digital storybooks by drawing, writing, adding photos and stickers, and recording their voices." Kindergarten students created digital books entitled, "All About Me." They shared their favorite color, food, animal, toy, and book by illustrating each page and recording their voice. After completion, they shared their books in the front of class.
