gives us the Church. Jesus is God and man. Jesus is the Word which is found in the books of the Holy Bible. Guided by the Holy Spirit, the writers of the Bible wrote about the things God wanted to share with us.
Third grade has learned about Jesus' second coming. They learned that the Holy Spirit came to the disciples at Pentecost, the Church's birthday. The Apostles led the early Church despite the risks. The students have learned that the Church reaches out to all sinners universally. As baptized members of the Church and we are called to spread the Gospel. We are the body of Christ on earth , and the love of Christ impels us to do His work. The girls gained a deeper understanding of the parish as a Catholic community and the various ways people serve in their parish.
Jesus gave his Apostles a mission to make disciples of all nations.
Many famous biblical figures from the Old Testament are learned. Adam, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Ruth and David are Jesus' family. The ancestry of Christ is based on the records in two gospels – Matthew 1:1-17 and Luke 3:23-38.

Mary, the Blessed Mother of God is the perfect model of holiness. They learned the mysteries of the Rosary and prayed and remembered Jesus and Mary's life. The saints are our friends in heaven and we are called to be saints too!
After Pentecost, the Apostles the Church and shared the Good News and baptized. They chose new leaders to build the church, The followers of Jesus stood up for their faith.
Third graders are taught the structure of the Church beginning with the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. They are learning the Mass is sending them out to live the Gospel message. Even as a student they have an important role.
They are becoming familiar with the Church's structure through the 4 Marks of the Church. The pope is the head of the Church. The Bishops and priests work together to spread the Gospel. The Church is the Body of Christ on earth and each part of the Body needs all the other parts. We are God's family. Going to Mass is the most important celebration of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. and Listening to God's Word is an important part of our prayer life.
The Church is one, holy, catholic and apostolic. The Holy Spirit guides the Church. The Church teaches different types of prayer: praise, thanksgiving, petition, blessing and intercession.
The students learn that, no matter what vocation we are called by God to live a life of holiness.
Third graders study the Old Testament prophets. They created a Jesse Tree filled with their favorite Old Testament Bible figures. They know the Jesse Tree is a tree leading us all to Jesus.
A sacrament is a visable sign given to us by Jesus through which we share in God's life and love.
From the time of the apostles, the Mass has been the central act of Christian worship. The Mass is the celebration of the Eucharist that Jesus instituted at the Last Supper, when he commanded his apostles, "Do this in memory of me". They will learn that the Passover supper and the Last Supper are related. The Mass is a sacrifice and a meal. Jesus is the Lamb of God. The Eucharist is the Real Presence of Jesus' body, blood, soul, and divinity.
