Your table is ready! Fourth grade students were welcomed to the Library for a book tasting where they got to try books from different genres including realistic fiction, biography, nonfiction, fantasy, and mystery. Using their menus, students got to be critics as they reviewed each of the genres they tasted. The Cardinal Cafe has been really busy...good thing fourth grade made reservations!
Students in fourth grade learned that November was International Games Month. So, we played games, of course! We talked about how there are different kinds of games--board games, card games, video games, etc. We then read Drew Daywalt's hilarious, The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors before engaging in our own Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament. Students then had a chance to try different games in the library. Zingo was a favorite!
After brainstorming how birds are alike, fourth grade students then had the opportunity to research a bird of their choice. Students learned how to review all of the information in the article to determine which information met their needs. They had to draw a picture of their bird, their bird's beak, their bird's nest, and their bird as a baby. They also had to identify what kind of food their bird eats, how many eggs it lays, and describe its call. Then also learned about citations and provided a citation for the information that they found.
Fourth grade students learned about National Parks and how President Theodore Roosevelt helped save these lands for EVERYONE to enjoy. Speaking of enjoying National Parks, through "Every Kid Outdoors," every fourth grade student received a National Park pass that will provde entry for them and their families to EVERY National Park through August 31, 2025. Enjoy!
Masters of using call numbers to locate Fiction books in the library, fourth grade students learned more about how to find nonfiction books in the library using the Dewey Decimal system. They practiced their skills by playing a shelving game. Are the books in order?!

After reading Leah Gilbert's The Perfect Plan, fourth grade students discussed what makes a good leader. They then made cards about leadership, and these were shared with the Network Aspiring Leaders to welcome them to Sacred Heart.
Through a challenging Kahoot, fourth grade students practiced their skills finding books in the library! They demonstrated that they can find specific books by using the electronic catalog to get the call number to locate the book on the shelf. This year, fourth grade gets to check out 5 books at a time. Happy Reading!
Fourth grade students helped create our bulletin board with book recommendations of favorite books that they have read! Students have been using our Book Recommendation board to find their next read....

Students in 2nd-4th grade participated in the Ambassador Butterfly project. Students then decorated their own ambassador butterflies which will "migrate" and be delivered to students in Mexico this fall.
Fourth grade students used PebbleGo to research endangered animals. They each made two trading cards about two different endangered animals and then used Flipgrid to record a video about their animals.
Fourth grade practiced finding call numbers in the library. They learned how books in the library are organized. Using 30-sided alphabet dice (one side for each letter of the alphabet + four "wild" sides), they searched for books using the first 3 letters of the author's last name. They then put these books in order on their own "bookshelves."
